we were all children once upon a time. We are going to have a story today about a boy, and it is such an interest ing story, because he was a hoy who always obeyed his parents, and when you find a boy or girl who does this, they are sure to he good boys and girls. Prayer. Lesson Story.—Now I am going to tell you something about this little boy in our story, and see if you can tell me his name. A great crowd of people are in a city and one family are looking for a place to stay, and after going from place to place, they can find no room anywhere, and finally the man and his wife find a place in a stable where they can stay. Clara says she knows the name. Yes, it was Jesus, and now who can tell me what hap pened at the time Jesus came to this world as a little baby? (Let the chil dren tell the story of the wonderful birth of Jesus, aiding their memory if necessary.) Now we have heard all about Jesus as a little baby and how God took care of him so the wicked king could not find him. Jesus was once a little baby just like you and me. Let us sing our song we all like so well. (Christ was once a little baby. In Songs for Little Singers, No. 2.) As he was growing up he had to learn things just as you boys have to learn. He went to school and thought carefully about his lessons and learned them well. He especially studied the Bible and listened to those who taught it, and he loved to go to church, and was always there on the days when services were held. He learned to work in the carpenter shop. He grew in mind, body and soul. He was a clean boy, honest and earnest in all he did. He took good care of his body, and never did anything that would hurt it in any way. He would never do many of the things we see boys doing today that make the body weak and sick, so that the mind is weak and cannot think
right and quickly, and when the body and mind are not strong, the boy cannot study and fit himself for any good po sition as he grows up. If the boys and girls would take Jesus as their Saviour, they too would take care of their bod ies, minds and souls, and be just the kind of boys and girls Jesus would have them to be. Do you think there would be any boys and girls that would be thieves, robbers or murderers in the world when they grew up to be men and women, if they had come to know Jesus? Even as a boy Jesus sought earnestly to know and do the will of God, his heavenly Father. Boys, seek the help of Jesus in all you do, for He was once a boy and understands just how a boy feels, and knows how temp tations come to you. Boys and girls, there is no friend like Jesus, and He can help you at all times. Our story tells us that the child grew, and waxed strong, filled with wisdom. Now we want to be strong and have the true wisdom from God, and we can have it just the same as Jesus, if we will trust Him and do the things God has asked us to do in the Bible. Closing Prayer.— Our dear, heavenly Father, we thank Thee for sending Jesus down to earth, and help us to love and serve Him. ^ The Devastating Plague ^ 5 However averse to controversy, $ | the time has arrived when all | $ faithful men must cease their talk $ ^ of “ peace,” and no longer indulge $ ^ in the fascinations of a spurious $ $ “ charity.” They must resolutely S 5 face the ugly fact, that, both in $ i; the home-lands and in the foreign $ ^ mission fields, the organized $ ^ churches are being decimated by $ $ a Plague of Unbelief, which has s$ $ come to us from Germany, and $ i which is being assiduously propa- i- 5 gated by traitors to the Biblical $ 5 Faith, which they are paid to de- $ ^ fend and uphold.—W.
