Designed with your back and body in mind, it’s ranked the best overall camping chair for 2023.

MESSAGE FROM THE CEO In our 2022 annual newsletter, I wrote about the progress we’ve made to enhance your camping experience and add more value to your membership. I am excited that we have not and will not waver from these efforts in 2023. Our teams are digging into your feedback and making changes along the way to put service above all else. At the resorts, we’ve instituted new entrance procedures at Lake Shore; implemented infraction trackers to make sure our policies are adhered; we stocked our Camp Stores like never before; we hired work campers to add more staff and provide you with better experiences; and we upgraded more campsites’ electrical service to 50 amps. In terms of membership value, we now allow AFMs to make holiday reservations sooner; we’re always adding new functionality to CampLife; and we’ve made storing your camper with us more convenient with an online software. I could not be more excited to continue seeing customer service leading the way. I also want to encourage you to try a new campground this year. Our smaller, seasonal resorts, Rifle River, Wilderness and Lake of the North, have low occupancy each summer compared to our other six resorts. We want to make sure we continue offering you best-in-class resorts, locations and amenities so if you try these resorts and love them or have feedback, let us know. All of us at Outdoor Adventures look forward to seeing you during your next visit. Best wishes and happy camping,

The Talk of the Campfire:

How do EVs affect our campgrounds? Will we need to alter our current framework to accommodate charging stations? Let’s hear from head of Resort Operations, Bill Cook:

Although the growing popularity of electric vehicles is exciting, it also presents a new challenge for many campground owners including Outdoor Adventures. The electrical demand on campgrounds keeps increasing and the electrical infrastructure in many locations around the country were not designed to handle the kind of loads expected of them by today’s camping community. Many campgrounds were built decades ago, when your typical camping trailer used propane for heat and did not have an air conditioner. Many of today’s trailers come equipped with electric fireplaces to assist with heat, and up to 3 air conditioners, putting an enormous load on the electrical grid. Outdoor Adventures knows that electric vehicles are coming and coming fast. We have been in communication with charging station providers and installers making plans for the future, so we will be able to offer a charging solution for our members and guests. We are in an exciting and changing world that is going to forever alter the way campers travel, but I am confident that we will meet the upcoming challenges so our members can travel with the assurance that Outdoor Adventures is aware of the upcoming needs and we are being proactive in coming up with solutions.

Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular around the world, so what exactly does that look like for

Electric vehicles are vehicles with the capability to run on electricity. There are three major types: All-electric vehicles (better known as EVs or BEVs), Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and Fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). All-electric vehicles don’t use gasoline at all. They run solely on an electric battery, whereas Plug-in Hybrid vehicles have the ability to run on both gasoline and electricity. Hybrids have historically been the more popular and more affordable choice for electric cars. Lastly, Fuel Cell electric vehicles differ from all electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles in that they are powered by hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity. Of the three, fuel cell electric vehicles are the least commonly used form of electric vehicles, with only two models available worldwide. Although electric vehicles currently make up only 3% of car sales worldwide, researchers project that by 2030 electric vehicles will reach 28% of global passenger vehicle sales, growing to 58% by 2040.

the future of our campgrounds? Let’s discuss!

While everyone is still planning for the future of electric vehicles and how to handle new expectations with electric needs, please keep in mind that no matter where you camp, in general, you should not use campsite pedestals to charge your electric vehicle without talking to a staff member first. At Outdoor Adventures, we have additional fees to cover our costs for charging electric vehicles and have to make sure there is appropriate amperage available. Owning an electric vehicle may take a little more pre-planning for your trip, but it’s an exciting time to be a part of shaping the future.
