GREAT Baby Hacks for New Parents By Madeline Pistorius

T here is definitely a learning curve that comes with becoming a parent, and sometimes it’s the smallest tricks that can make the biggest difference. We gathered some of the clever hacks parents actually swear by, with a little ex- pert-backed guidance where safety comes into play. Because when you’re juggling a new baby, a little shortcut here and there can go a long way. Making Nights (and Naps) Easier 1. Let a sleepsack do the blanket’s job. With a properly fitted sleep sack, the baby stays warm without a loose blanket crowding the crib. 2. Build a bedside nighttime station. SITUATION: It’s 3 a.m., the baby is crying, and the wipes are across the room. HACK: Keep diapers, wipes, burp cloths, water, a phone charger, and other nighttime essentials within arm’s reach. 3. Use two-way zipper pajamas. For nighttime diaper changes, a bottom-up zipper means you can skip completely undressing your baby. 4. Layer your baby’s crib with a mattress protector, sheet, mattress protector, then another sheet. A middle-of-the-night mess shouldn’t require a trip to the linen closet.

the dirty one. SITUATION: You open the diaper and immediately realize there is a big mess to tackle. HACK: Slide a clean diaper underneath your baby before you start. With this trick, one layer is already in place! 9. In the case of a blowout, pull bodysuits down—not over your baby’s head. Notice those overlapping shoulders on baby bodysuits? They’re there for a reason! 10. Make mini changing stations around the house. Keep diapers, wipes, and changing essentials in the places you actually spend time, not just in the nursery. For quick, spur-of-the-moment changes, a non-toxic puppy pad can also make a handy disposable changing surface. 11. Pack a backup shirt for you, too. Sometimes your baby isn’t the only one who needs a change of clothes in the middle of the day. Laundry Tricks & Less Confusion 12. Pack your baby’s spare outfit inside a resealable bag.

Pro tip: Keep doing this during potty training! Feeding & Pumping Made Simple 5. Create a mobile feeding cart. Stock a small cart with feeding or pumping supplies, burp cloths, water, snacks, and other essentials, then roll it wherever you plan to feed. 6. Put burp cloths everywhere. SITUATION: Baby is spitting up and the nearest burp cloth is nowhere in sight. HACK: Stash them by the couch, bed, rocker, changing station, diaper bag—really, anywhere you regularly hold your baby. 7. Give bottles their own washing setup. If you are hand-washing, the CDC recommends using a clean basin reserved for infant feeding items rather than placing them directly in the kitchen sink. When using the dish washer, contain tiny bottle parts. For dishwasher-safe pieces, use a closed-top dishwasher basket or a mesh laundry bag so they don’t disappear into the filter. Diapers, Blowouts, & Messes, Oh My! 8. Put the clean diaper underneath

In the case of an outfit change, the messy clothes go into the now-empty bag.
