Quitting smoking pays off

Brandon Roud, a Cornwall St. Lawrence College Student, was one of the winners of the Leave the Pack Behind program’s wouldurather contest. As one of the two winners from across the province in the Keep the Count category, Brandon won $1000 for quitting smoking. Roud, who is studying to become a paramedic, said he wanted to quit smoking “because as a paramedic, people expect you not to smoke. I wanted to quit for myself and I wanted to quit for others.” $e wouldurather contest awards cash prizes to eight Ontario residents who are registered students at a publicly-funded post-secondary institution in Ontario or young adults between the ages of 18 to 29. $e contest encourages youth and young adults to decrease their tobacco use or quit smoking altogether.
