CENTER O F AEROSPACE RES I L I ENCE

The state of Florida needs a cybersecurity and analytics research and training center focused on aviation and aerospace systems to help creating new jobs and workforce development. The proposed center will be hosting experts from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and The University of Florida.

The Challenge Advances in aviation and aerospace (aero) services form an essential part of our state, national and global economies. The State of Florida has been making considerable investments to enhance its aero and space infrastructure and capabilities. Currently, there are over 2,000 aero job openings in Florida. Given our state’s interest and investments in the aero industry in general and commercial space in particular, the need for skilled employees is expected to grow. Educational institutions across Florida need to support the state’s growth in the aero industry through innovation and workforce development. National as well as global trends indicate that the need for skilled aero professionals in Florida is expected to grow further. /// The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s Aerospace Forecast for the years 2019-2039 predicts sustained growth in the industry. /// The FAA also forecasts growth in commercial space. Data for FAA-licensed and permitted launches and reentry operations indicate a growing trend: 35 in 2018, 33-44 expected in 2019, 35-54 in 2020 and 33-56 in 2021. /// Florida-based companies are making tremendous contributions to the commercial space; for instance, OneWeb is developing a satellite network involving more than 600 satellites. /// The expected growth in the number of satellites alone requires immediate attention to workforce development in Florida.
