More Than... Her lyrical subjects, much like her musical styles, vary from track to track. With MGM, she says her material tends toward club and party tracks - a result of the chemistry among the group’s three MC’s. “We all get in the studio and just vibe,” says Mone’. “We’ll nd a beat and somebody comes up with a tempo and we all just kind of feed on that.” Her words wax poetic on a more personal level in her solo work, leading a musical exploration through her life’s triumphs and struggles, like being a busy single mother with steep aspira- tions. Her numerous responsibilities keep her focused and motivated; her feelings toward them give sincere feeling to her words. “My daughter is my biggest motivation,” she says, “but most of these songs come from real emotion, real feelings, real things that I’m dealing with every day.” Highly personal, yet widely relatable, she speaks to a demographic often overlooked in music of any genre.

Bring It Home

To streamline her life and accommodate the spontaneous creativity - remember the mid-con- versation notebook writing? - Mone’ is wrapping up work on a home recording studio. She says having round-the-clock access to recording equipment will accelerate her rise in the industry, and she is ready to unleash a surplus of new material. “It’s been awhile since I put anything out, so I’m at the point where I’m ready to put out so many songs, so many videos and drop my mixtape,” she says. After the releases, Mone’ is ready to start touring open mics and out-of-state venues to build her fanbase. Like so many Madison artists struggling to get heard, Mone’ is quick to point out that the city’s hip hop scene just isn’t what it could be, although she adds that the positive local support she’s received has been a major motivation to keep on her path. “The hip hop scene in Madison was out of control for awhile,” she says. “Now you need to travel if you want to be known.”

“I know that I can’t be the only one going through these things,” she says.

While it can be challenging keeping up with the speed of life, it certainly creates a rich supply of inspiration to work into her music. To put it simply once again, she’s more than just an artist.
