Falcons launch new football season

Stoqua observed that the Falcons will need to workmore on improving their ability to «stop the run» on their opponents, and also keep their outside lanes contained. SFX is in a smaller teampool this season with a new name for its own league, the Eas- tern Ontario Football Conference (EOFC). !e conference consists of the seven high school teams outside of the Cornwall school group area that were all part of the Seaway League with Cornwall. Now Cornwall has split o# this season with all of the schools within its area and taken the Seaway League designation along with it. Next game on the schedule for the Falcons in the EOFC is Wednesday, Sept. 30, on the road to Brockville to play !ousand Island Secondary. !e Falcons host the Saint!o- mas Aquinas Ravens at SFX on Oct. 6.
It’s a new season and also a new football league for the Saint Francis Xavier Falcons. !e Falcons hosted the Gananoque Tro- jans for their season opener at home, Sept. 23. !e Trojans grounded the Falcons 25-2 with SFX getting its two points on a safety call. Head Coach Scott Stoqua was still satis- "ed with how the overall play went for the Falcons for their "rst game of the new high school football season. «To be honest,» Stoqua said, «it was better than we thought it would be.» He noted that Gananoque is a tier two- level high school football team, whichmeans the school has a larger player pool to "ll its bench. SFX is a tier one-level school, which means it has a smaller player pool to work with for the season. «So I think we held our own pretty well,» Stoqua said. «Our defence was working pret- ty well. We’ve made a lot of improvements from last year.»
