more events. The weather was excellent, but the track was in very poor condition, so many boys had sore legs after the first day. It is to their credit that they carried on and, in many cases, achieved top places, close finishes or personal bests. By my count, College athletes achieved 17 personal bests – and to peak at a championship event is an outstanding achievement – and won seven championship titles, six 2nd and eight 3rd places. Five athletes took part in the pole vault competition, which was held at Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub in Christchurch on Thursday 28 March. Weather conditions were not ideal, as high winds hampered the athletes when attempting their normal personal best heights.
