vs Shore School, Sydney College 215/7 dec (Lidstone 56, McClean 46, Graham 37*) and 145/8 dec (Graham 57), lost to Shore 189 (McClean 3/56) and 174/5 (Harper 3/38) College seemed to have the game here and set up an exciting last day with an aggressive declaration following good knocks from Lidstone and McClean in the first innings and Graham in the second. Sadly, despite two early wickets from Harper, Shore got home with two overs left. vs King's College King’s 256/9 (Averill 2/35) beat College 205 ao (Lidstone 78, Manson 48) King’s showed themselves to be a strong unit with a fine 98 from their opening batsman and a fighting 50 by the number 8 securing a decent score which College were unable to chase down. Lidstone and Manson looked good with a 120 run partnership, but once they departed we did not offer much more resistance. vs Canberra Grammar School College 216/9 dec (Harper 65, McClean 35) and 178/5 dec (Beal 46, Manson 42) lost to Canberra 195/9 dec (Gunn 2/40) and 203/6 (Prentice 2/32) Six batsmen got 20 or more in the first innings and set up the game with a fine second innings, but could not get the strongest Canberra batsman out and we lost with only one over left.

vs North West Youth Cricket College 158/5 dec (Graham 56*, Beal 46) drew with North West 46/5 (Greenslade 3/18) On the first day only 61 overs were able to be played due to rain, with the second day unable to see any play at all. There was enough time for a good effort from Graham and then Greenslade picked up three quick wickets, however, the weather was the winner and the match was a draw.

Tom Macfarlane held his nerve to see us to a one wicket win. vs St Andrew’s College 2nd XI College 108 ao (Greenslade 35) and 237/9 dec (Anderson 46, Manson 39, Harper 34) defeated StAC 137ao (Averill 4/25, Macfarlane 3/11) and 91 ao (Harper 4/12) by 117 runs The game was evenly poised after the first innings as the pitch appeared to be the winner, however, College batted with more purpose in their second effort. Harper was involved in seven dismissals, including a fine couple of catches in the slips to win the game for College with time running out. vs Otago Boys’ High School OBHS 178 ao (Harper 2/45, Averill 2/8) and 186 ao (McClean 3/36, Rees 2/16, Averill 2/15) lost to College 152 ao (McClean 34*, Anderson 33) and 216/7 (Lidstone 70*, Graham 34) The annual exchange was even throughout, but ended up being a fine win for College. A strong bowling effort left us chasing 216 in 51 overs, but with Lidstone anchoring the chase, supported by Graham, Rees and Macfarlane, we ended up winning by three wickets with eight balls left to play. The 70 run partnership between Lidstone and Graham was the difference between the two teams. vs St Andrew’s College 1st XI College 102 ao (Lidstone 53*, Macfarlane 45) and 180 ao (Graham 36, Lidstone 34, Anderson 34) lost to StAC 188/7 dec (Harper 2/46, Graham 2/39) and 123/2 (Harper 2/13) by 8 wickets College were up against a strong StAC team and, despite a fine 60 run partnership between Lidstone and Macfarlane, no one else really got going in our first innings so it was always going to be difficult. Two early wickets to Harper looked hopeful, but two fine StAC batsmen took the game away from us in both innings. A better effort batting second time around was still not good enough and StAC won comfortably.

vs Christchurch Boys’ High School 1st XI

CBHS 292/3 dec defeated College 67 ao and 68 ao by an innings and 157 runs This was certainly a game to forget. We bowled steadily but without much penetration, and a couple of dropped catches cost us dearly. The pitch was good, however, and we should have done a lot better in our first innings, but poor choices resulted in us being bundled out in under 40 overs. CBHS bowled and fielded better and, in the end, it was no surprise that with nine single figure scores we failed to reach 100 again. It was a comprehensive defeat with no player coming out of the match with much credit. vs Whanganui Collegiate School College 225/9 dec (Manson 73, Lidstone 39, Harper 38) and 129/5 dec (Anderson 34) lost to WCS 147 ao (Greenslade 4/24) and 208/7 (Greenslade 3/46) by 3 wickets This was a very disappointing result considering College had been in the driving seat for much of the match. College controlled the first day and were ahead until lunch on the second when it became clear WCS were batting with far more intent. We could not get their wicketkeeper/ batsman out in either innings and his pair of half centuries proved decisive. In the end, with five overs left, WCS hit the winning runs despite Greenslade taking seven wickets. Term 1 also saw three Twenty20 matches against Shirley Boys’ High School, StAC and North West. We

vs St Bede’s College St Bede’s 86 ao (Harper 4/21,

McClean 3/18) and 192 ao (McClean 4/42) lost to College 97ao (Lidstone 23) and 182/9 (Manson 57, Greenslade 38 The most exciting of matches seemed to be in the bag early on day one, with St Bede’s out in 32 overs, but we struggled to build any substantial partnerships, taking a mere 11 run lead into the second innings. St Bede’s made a better fist of things second time around and it was a far bigger struggle with a few starts but only Manson really settling.
