used these to debut a few younger players, but still managed to win two and lose the third. vs Onslow College College 234/7 (Harper 63, Beal 37) defeated Onslow 183 ao (Lund 3/39, Gimblett 2/16, Graham 2/25) by 51 runs The new term saw some new faces in the team and a new captain. Greenslade won the toss (as he did in 80% of his matches in charge) and we batted well to set a decent target. Manson, Beale and Harper all looked good. Onslow struggled to adapt to the steady slower bowling of Gimblett, Lund and Graham to slump to defeat. Lund was particularly impressive on his debut.

a single on the final ball – resulting in the first tie for the team for quite some time. This represented a missed opportunity in terms of points, but was an exciting fixture. vs St Andrew’s College 1st XI StAC 188/7 (Gimblett 3/31, Graham 2/19) beat College 162 ao (McClean 33) by 26 runs Another match that slipped away. College bowled well and had StAC 6/97 off 35 overs, but a solid 7th wicket partnership saw them get a few more than they should. In reply, College were looking comfortable at 90/3 and then 118/4 before a flurry of wickets and a slowing of runs meant more risks had to be taken. In the end a part-time spinner proved too tempting and we ended up gifting wickets to lose the game in the final over. vs St Thomas of Canterbury College – NZ Cup quarter-final College 236 ao (Macfarlane 50, Harper 45, Graham 44, wides 42) defeated St Thomas 114 (Harper 6/14) A solid if unspectacular batting effort saw a total about par for the pitch with several decent contributions, not least by the opposition bowlers, but Harper proved to be far too good, taking the first five wickets (four of

them bowled) and the last to wrap up a comfortable win. vs St Bede’s College – NZ Cup semi-final St Bede’s 100 ao (Averill 3/11, McClean 3/17) lost to College 103/4 (Harper 32*) In one of their best performances of the season, College defeated St Bede’s comfortably. All bowlers contributed, bowling a tight and challenging line, and they were backed up by good fielding throughout. The total was never going to be enough and so it proved with College knocking off the runs in 23 overs. vs Christchurch Boys’ High School 1st XI CBHS 280 (Averill 3/53) defeated College 144 (Harper 51, McClean 33) This match was nicely poised midway through the CBHS innings at 122/5 off 27 overs, but a couple of good partnerships and two scores in the 80s set College a daunting target. With our top four batsmen failing to make 15 we were never in the hunt and, despite a battling 50 from Harper, the result was never in doubt and we folded in the 36th over.

vs Christchurch Boys’ High School 2nd XI

College 138/6 (Manson 39) tied with CBHS 138/9 (Graham 3/13, Harper 2/15) Inserted on a green wicket in damp conditions College struggled to adapt to the shorter 40 over a side game. Despite four players getting to 20, we never scored at a quick enough rate to set a high total and, despite taking regular wickets, CBHS ended the 39th over needing eight to win with one wicket left. Greenslade led from the front, but was unable to prevent
