the door she saw what looked like a smoul- dering fire in the room. Police and fire fighters arrived on the scene soon after. The fire was extinguished and Simard’s body recovered. His wife was taken to Montfort Hospital for treatment of shock and smoke inhalation. Both the OPP and the Ontario Fire Mar- shall’s Office (OFM) have ruled the fire as accidental in nature. The OFM’s technical investigation on the exact cause of the fire is still ongoing. The fire was confined to the bedroom of the deceased. No other neighbouring condo units were damaged. Residents of the nearby units were evacuated while po- lice and firefighters dealt with the situation. They were allowed back into their homes later in the day.
