addition, the new facility paral- lels The Coca-Cola Company’s own Live Positively standards for sustainability. The new distribution center consolidates Coca-Cola Re- freshments’ operations from Neptune, North Brunswick and Parsippany and repre- sents a significant investment by the company in the state. “By stepping back from the buildings and rethinking the role of distribution centers in the supply chain, we can build projects that are arguably good for the environment,” said Klimek, an active member of the NAIOP and USGBC teams creating a set of LEED guide- lines specifically for industrial distribution centers. “While LEED has helped us come a long way to create green build- ings, at the end of the day, we need to remember sustainabili- ty is not about points, but about the environmental, economic and community benefits.” ■ 1500 vinyl sliding glass doors, most of them elegant 8’ tall units. Other sliding glass doors utilized 88 accompanying over- head transom glass panels. Each of the over 4,000 white windows and doors were speci- fied with Solarban 60 Low-E glass coatings and argon gas filled insulated glass units for improved energy efficiency, as well as two-lights of double strength glass for enhanced structural performance. All of the Series 300 and Series 310 windows and Series 1500 sliding patio doors feature strong integral nailing fins to facilitate new construction installation. Through factory mulling and use of continuous head and sill frames, many of the windows were combined in stacked or side-by-side ganged configurations, enabling broad (over 8 feet wide) or tall (over 8 feet high) expanses of contigu- ous windows where called for by the upscale property’s archi- tectural specifications. ■

226,000 s/f distribution center for Coca-Cola Refreshments has achieved LEED Silver certification through the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Ener- gy and Environmental Design program. Designed by K SS Archi- tects , the distribution center sets a new standard for the sustainable design of indus- trial buildings and serves a model for this building type throughout New Jersey and the region. “Due to its monumental and vital role in national and world- wide trade, industrial real estate has significant impact on the environment,” said Edmund Klimek , partner at KSS and leader of Commercial and In- dustrial Architecture at the firm. “Though some people thought ‘industrial’ and ‘sustainable FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Crystal Window & Door Systems has supplied over 4,000 vinyl windows and doors for the new upscale Halstead Square development. The new construction six- story mixed use buildings at 2750 Gallows Rd. in Vienna feature residential apartments with ground floor retail space. The mid-rise projects called for the installation of Crystal highly energy efficient vinyl single-hung and picture win- dows as well as vinyl sliding doors, some with overhead transom windows. A limited number of Crystal aluminum swing terrace doors were used in one building. While vinyl windows are common in one or two-family homes and low-rise residen- tial, usually aluminum frame windows are used in taller structures.
