Health & Wellness The Newsletter About Your Health And Caring For Your Body

The therapists at Fritz Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine are health care professionals who diagnose and treat people of all ages, from newborns to the elderly, who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. We examine you and develop a plan of care using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. We work with you to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness- and wellness- oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles. Fritz Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine can help improve your walking and balance abilities. Our therapists determine what areas of the body you are having difficulty moving. We perform neurological, vestibular, balance, and orthopedic evaluations. We then put together a comprehensive plan to get you back to walking confidently and without limitations. It is never too late to improve gait and balance, even if people use a cane or walker to get around. When your confidence is restored, exercise can be increased and incorporated more into your daily life, which improves your cardiac and mental health. Furthermore, there are many types of pain and inflammation that can be reduced by physical therapy. For example, chronic pain in the back, shoulder, or knee, or pain associated with certain degenerative diseases such as osteoarthritis, can be reduced by our team of skilled therapists. We can help you manage your health, including cardiac health, over the long term. The Importance of Physical Therapy

GET MOVING AGAIN AFTER A HERNIATED DISC

Do you suffer from back or neck pain? At times this pain can radiate indicating a potential problem with the discs. The bones in your spine are called the vertebrae. The vertebrae are held together and in place by ligaments and small discs that act as shock absorbers. These control your spine’s range of movement, flexibility and keep the spinal cord safe fromdamage. However, when a disc is damaged, the inside can squeeze out of place and either bulge or herniate, leaving the spinal nerves susceptible to damage. When this occurs, the result is called a “herniated disc,” “slipped” or “ruptured disc.” A herniated disc can be incredibly painful and can cause a great deal of limitations on the body’s movement, thus hindering a person’s movement and overall ability to perform day-to-day tasks. A herniated disc can cause a variety of symptoms including radiating pain down the arm or leg, depending if the herniated disc is in your neck or lowback. Bulging discs are the beginning phase of herniated discs. Very often people

have a bulging disc and don’t even know it. Only when the outside of a bulging disc becomes irritated and effects the surrounding tissue does it begin to cause backache, generally in the same area and not down the leg. A herniated disc in the neck can be just as painful as a herniated disc in the back. Arm pain from a neck herniated disc is one of themore common neck conditions treated by our spine specialists. Although a neck herniated disc may start from injury to the spine, the symptoms, including arm pain, commonly start from poor posture or muscle strains. The arm pain from a neck herniated disc occurs because the herniated disc material “pinches” or presses on a nerve, causing pain to radiate along the nerve down the arm. Our specialized physical therapists are trained to examine your spine and movement to find the root cause of your problem. Thenwe work with you and your doctor to put together a plan that helps you achieve optimum results

DIRECTIONS Position a rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 375 degrees F. Line 12 (1/2-cup) muffin cups with paper liners. Whisk flours, oat bran, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl. Lightly beat the eggs and egg white in a medium bowl. Stir in the buttermilk, brown sugar, and oil.
