Hayatona – Our Life
In In times of crisis, the true mettle of nations is revealed, just as the character of individuals is tested under pressure. When the UAE President, HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan spoke those now-iconic words, “In the UAE, everyone is Emirati”, it was more than a statement. He captured the spirit of an entire nation - a human code that had long been lived before it was ever put into words. More than forty days have passed since the crisis began, each one offering fresh proof of the strength of this country. Between the official precautionary alerts and the reassur- ing messages that followed, daily life carried on its familiar rhythm. And through it all, we held on to those three words, repeated with quiet certainty, carrying a world of comfort: “La Tashilloon Hamm” – Don’t worry. It has been twenty years since I first set foot in the UAE. These have not been just years of work, but a journey of deep belong- ing, of becoming. Here, the law is an umbrella that shelters everyone, and humanity is a shared language spoken across two hundred nationalities. In my dealings with the people of the UAE, I have found noth- ing but sana’a , that distinctly Emirati grace in dealing with oth- ers, and faza’a , that deep instinct to help and stand by people in need, along with a generosity of spirit that, over time, made them family. Not different from my family in Egypt – in fact, they have become an extension of it in my heart. Beautiful Abu Dhabi, with its captivating calm, order, and me- ticulous precision, gave me the space to grow professionally and personally, to build the life I came here dreaming of. I am proud to be part of this ecosystem and of Abu Dhabi’s great success story - not as a passing guest, but as someone who belongs here. Millions came before me, and millions came after, each in search for solid ground. The UAE welcomed them all. They found safety and continuity here. Their children grew up on this soil, knowing no other homeland. Mine are among

them - raised in Abu Dhabi, shaped by it, and for whom this city is simply home. I have friends from a dozen nationalities for whom the UAE is not a chapter in their story; it is the story. Even those who ventured West, took foreign citizenships, and sampled what the world calls opportunity, many eventually returned. Because anyone who has truly lived here knows what this country offers: not just comfort, but dignity. Not just stability, but a life worth building. I spent five years in Europe myself as an international staff member at the UN, with privileges many European citizens never enjoy. Even so, it came nowhere near what the UAE quietly and consistently offers its residents every single day.
