THE OPEN ROAD FURTHERING OUR ABILITIES TO HELP MOTORCYCLISTS THIS SEASON
When I was younger, I used to love hopping on my motorcycle, reaching up to those high handlebars, and riding down the open road. Bugs and gunk slapped my face, but I didn’t care. I felt cool and free. And while the lawyer I am today would be very cautious about the reckless behavior of my younger self, I can say those are some pretty fun memories. In Georgia, the opportunities for cruising down the open road can be endless so long as our fabled southern weather stands up to its reputation. Unfortunately, getting into an accident on a motorcycle can be dangerous and costly. This is where my team can step in. At Don Turner Legal Team, we have many strengths. We battle for your rights in criminal court, we fight for proper compensation after accidents, and we do all we can to make sure you are prepared for anything before you pull your bike out this spring. We are a founding member of the National Academy of Motorcycle Injury Lawyers. This group of specialists connects lawyers like myself together, so we can serve our clients in the best way possible, including offering new promotions, services, and marketing concepts. For us, the promotions and marketing mean very little. What we can offer clients before and after an accident is everything to us, and that’s the biggest value we see in partnering with this organization. (Plus, there’s some fun stuff too!)
We’re offering both motorcyclists and
motorists an opportunity to participate in a free insurance audit. We invite you to come to our office and work with one of
our legal experts to determine if your coverage is adequate enough or if you should consider adding uninsured motorist coverage to your plan. This will protect you if you get into an accident with someone who has limited or no insurance.
Furthermore, we’re going to be participating and engaging with motorcycle clubs and groups in the area to offer more education and awareness of our services. We want motorcyclists to know that we support them, and our goal is to become more involved in their communities. The aftermath of an accident is stressful, and we know the last thing someone wants to do is find a lawyer. That’s why we are hoping that by becoming more involved with these motorcycle communities, we can take away some of that burden should an accident happen. This will include handing out what we call VIP cards so all our contact information can be readily available. And now, for something fun. As part of our partnership with the National Academy of Motorcycle Injury Lawyers, we are hosting an opportunity for you to win a FXDR 114 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Imagine firing up your new bike — a $21,000 value — and cruising along your favorite spots this year. It can’t get

THE CINDERELLA EVERYONE LOVED TO HATE
THE 1990 UNLV RUNNIN’ REBELS
Whether you’re posting pictures of your Saturday brunch or keeping in touch with high school classmates, social media has a way of connecting everyone together that wasn’t available before. Unfortunately, it has also dredged up a litany of issues, and for those involved in a court case, social media can be problematic. Social media can be detrimental to your case because your accounts are accessible to everyone, including a jury, the judge, and your opponents. The most important thing to remember is to never post about your case on social media to avoid any perception issues. For plaintiffs in personal injury cases, every word and photo posted has the potential to be twisted by insurance companies to prove compensation isn’t deserved. Furthermore, what you regard as a simple reassurance to your loved ones that you’re okay after an accident could be seen by the defense as a confession of perfect health — regardless of your medical bills. HOW SOCIAL MEDIA CAN BE DETRIMENTAL TO YOUR CASE SOCIAL SCRUTINY The early ‘90s was a contentious time in college basketball, full of pure amateur competition. The days of the “one and done” player were far ahead, which meant that all the top-level talent was bred in the hotbed of the NCAA. Players like Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and David Robinson had to prove their NBA mettle in the grueling basketball tournament we all know as March Madness. It has always showcased the best of the best, but America has always loved an underdog. Last year, audiences adored Loyola Chicago as they made their way to the Final Four. Cinderella teams fill our hearts with hope and optimism, but not all of them are loveable. Perhaps no small school is more polarizing than the UNLV squad that was put together by the late, great Jerry Tarkanian. The team was nasty, flashy, and, most importantly, downright impossible to beat. “The Runnin’ Rebels” ran the court like no team before. Reports have the 1991 Tarkanian squad referring to the Arkansas Razorbacks’ “40 minutes of hell” as “40 minutes of vacation” when it beat the then second-ranked team on its home court. The team embodied swagger and wasn’t afraid to create a splash everywhere it went. Most of the noise wasn’t positive, but when you win the national championship the year prior, a little arrogance is necessary to maintain your “bad guy” image. Formally a small state school known to locals as “Tumbleweed Tech,” UNLV wasn’t even a Division I school until 1970. When
Tarkanian took over in ‘73, the
school went from an institution most acclaimed for its hospitality
program to an NCAA basketball tournament regular. After making their first Final Four appearance in 1977, the team started down a path that would take them to four Elite 8s in five years, and there would be no greater success than the season that came to pass in 1990.
Most games are back-and-forth, with drama centering around every possession. That was not the case during the 1990 national championship game. Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski guided his team to the final through steady stellar performances throughout the tournament, and all was well until the legendary program met UNLV’s rowdies. The opening tipoff was about as close as Duke ever got to controlling any part of that game. Anderson Hunt, Stacey Augmon, and Larry Johnson ran the Blue Devils off the court, and the Cinderella team everyone came to hate won 103–73 in the biggest blowout in NCAA tournament history.
as careless and temperamental. Additionally, posting anything illegal or risqué on social media has the potential to be used against you, even when it’s meant to be harmless. Courts have ruled that evidence of illegal activity on social media is admissible in court. Sadly, even your family and friends could face scrutiny. If your mom is posting about how much fun she had at yoga with you while you claim to have sustained damage to your neck or your dad rants on Facebook about how much you want in compensation, you may face accusations of fraud. However, don’t delete your accounts all together. Opponents in your case will question why you were so quick to wipe out your social presence, and your credibility could be tarnished. At Don Turner Legal Team, social media is just one facet of your case where we offer our expert advice. If you have questions or concerns about your case, Don Turner Legal Team can help you. Call 770-594-1777 or visit DonTurnerLegalTeam.com.
If you’re facing criminal charges, a Facebook rant about your political opinions or a post about your new car could be construed

DO’S AND DON’TS
Important Reminders to Keep You Safe During Your Night Out
It’s Friday night, and all you want to do is spend a few hours blowing off some steam with your friends. There’s nothing wrong with having a little fun, but being prepared for a night out can keep you safe. Next time you hit the town, follow these tips to avoid a driving under the influence (DUI) charge and help your case should you be charged. Always Do This Before the night begins, know your limit and designate a sober driver. Then, throughout the night, keep all your receipts. If you have too much to drink, call a cab or ask a bartender for options. Always have your license, registration, and proof of insurance in your vehicle, and pull to the side of the road quickly and safely if a police officer stops you driving home. When the officer approaches your vehicle, treat them with respect and don’t argue or resist. Instead, utilize your right to remain silent. Never Do This When you are pulled over, remember that you have rights. Never agree to field sobriety tests. You do not have to perform these, and refusing to do so is not resisting. Do not answer any questions about where you were or if you were drinking, and do not blow into an Alco-Sensor unit. Furthermore, remain seated
in your vehicle until you are instructed otherwise, and never lean against the outside of a vehicle. Remember This According to Georgia law, drivers pulled over for suspicion of driving under the influence have to submit to chemical testing or face a one-year license suspension. However, you have a choice as to what test you do. If you choose a breathalyzer test, only agree to an Intoxilyzer test, not an Alco-Sensor, which is not admissible in court because of its unreliability. Blood and urine tests are also options, but all tests are done at the expense of the driver. Some extreme cases, such as previous DUIs or injury, may make it advantageous to avoid a chemical test despite the penalty. Regardless of what you do before and during the night, always call a lawyer when you face legal trouble. The Don Turner Legal Team has the experience to defend you and your rights. 3 UNIQUE THERAPY ANIMALS
Everyone has heard of therapy dogs and cats, but did you know virtually any critter can be a therapy or support animal? Therapy animals help humans cope with PTSD, anxiety, depression, injury, high blood pressure, and chronic pain, as well as a wide range of other conditions and difficulties. Therapy animals range from guinea pigs that can fit in a purse to dolphins that swim with amputees. Here are three unique companions who make a difference in the lives of people who need them. Rojo the Llama Mountain Peaks Therapy Llamas and Alpacas in Portland, Oregon, has conducted over 1,500 visits during the last decade and helps over 10,000 people each year. Their star llama, Rojo, is one of just 14 llamas registered as a therapy animal in the United States. Rojo’s exceptionally gentle temperament is calming to everyone who meets him. He’s so well-loved and has become such a big deal that he has his own Facebook page and two children’s books! Buttercup the Pot-Bellied Pig Lois Brady, a speech pathologist who works with special needs students in San Francisco, has a secret weapon in her arsenal: Buttercup, her black, 70-pound Vietnamese pot-bellied pig. His docile nature makes him the perfect companion for autistic
children, who are often easily startled. Because Buttercup is an unusual sight in
classrooms, children find him fascinating. In 2017, an autistic student who had never spoken to his classmates before felt compelled to crawl out from beneath his desk to pet Buttercup. Afterward, the child spoke to the class for the first time. “It was a remarkable breakthrough,” says Brady. Rocky the Miniature Horse At just 32 inches high and 325 pounds, Rocky packs a lot of cuteness into one small package. He’s not a pony but rather a breed of miniature horse historically used in coal mines in the 17th century. His specialty is working with retired veterans at the VA Community Living Center in Phoenix, Arizona, where the residents know him and look forward to his visits. For some, Rocky’s visits are bittersweet. “I wish I could have had more time to spend with horses,” says one veteran as he scratches Rocky’s ears. “There’s something calming about them.”
