Special training is g iven in manual touch, pedal tech niqu e. registration, church playing and solo and choi r accompaniment. Standard works are used . such as Pedal Stu dies by '\Yhit ing . Schneider and Buck. the R ink Organ , chool and the Bach l, ittle P reludes and Fugues, Compos itions by Flagler. Gounod, Merkel, Lemaigre, Bat iste, etc. :\fore ach·anced students take up the study of organ son atas. concertos and other compos itions by l\ r endelssohn. Gu il mant. Hhe inberger, '\Vidor and others. 5. HARMOKY The course in Harmony and Composition o-iyes the student a thorough and practical knowledge of chords and their rela tion. YOice lead ing , practice in ha rmon;zati on of g iven melodies, and leads to original work and the writ ing of Gospel songs and other compos iti ons. Th:s wo rk covers two semesters . 6. EAR TRAIN JNG Thi~ course directs the stud ent to think tonality and to cliscrim;nate. through the ear, the different harmonies. Chore! and melody dictation is g iven a nd g rea t st ress is placed on the outstanding harmonic resolution s, modulation and chromatic alteration~. 7. CONDUCTING Students are given thorough instruction in all Yanet1es of · rhythm and the best way of beating t;me for each- both with and without the baton. Each student appears before the class from tillle to time as a conductor and und er the guidance and criti ci~m of the instructor gains actua l exper ience in conducting a choir and congregation . 8. NORMAL TRAINING Students a re instructed in pedagogical principles a s applied to music. and giYen actual experience before the class in teach-
