by Linda McGrath-Redmond Host + Columnist at Hola Sober
If all this sounds very scary and hard that’s because it is. But the honest truth is that living in the lies and denial of addiction is so much harder. And even better, we don’t do this alone! We walk this path of recovery and discovery with other like-minded fabulous real women who hold us up when the going gets tough and celebrate the very many sober gold moments. Here in the safe and sacred space that is Hola Sober we bring our truth, we own it proudly, and come as we are, where ever that may be. It’s an ongoing process. There is no finish line and for that, I’m very thankful. Because life is good and bad and everything in between, but when you have a tribe of powerful women beside and behind you, you want to discover more and more about yourself. It’s a beautiful new way of living when we finally stand in our truth. There is no place for shame on our journey, just honesty, rigorous honesty. And discovery. That’s the gold star bonus. Our inner light beams brightly. We continue to educate ourselves and discover that we are empowered women and capable of anything we set our hearts and minds to. But to hold our hand out and help another woman forward on this path is the most rewarding gift of all. That and standing proud before the world and saying very happily, ‘I was a woman who used to drink, and now I don’t’. The time is coming, slowly but surely for the big alcohol companies to own their truth and tell everyone loud and clear that what they are promoting and selling so seductively is a legalized over-the-counter sedative. I was very pleased to see the WHO finally come out and say there is NO safe level of drinking. It’s a start. But we are a new generation of women who won’t back away from the truth, after all, we lived all too long in the lies. Not today lady, not today.
