SPRING CLEAN YOUR SOBRIETY

Spring is finally here, and I am reminded that spring cleaning is so much more than clearing out closets. Spring is often seen as an awakening or a rebirth after the dark, cold months of winter (I am quite sure this most recent winter lasted for several years!) Spring is a perfect time to renew your commitment to your sobriety, which includes taking inventory of your literal, physical and spiritual home. Spring gives us the opportunity to reflect and evaluate. How strong are you feeling in your recovery? If you have been sober for a while, have you become complacent? Are you taking it for granted? Are you leaving a crack open in the door for Moderation Mary to sneak back in? Is it time to upgrade your sobriety plan? Do you need any kind of recovery readjustment?
Your sobriety is something that always needs your attention. Just as you would spring clean your house, you must spring clean your sobriety, actively engaging in your recovery in some way, every day. As our Hola Sober leader, Susan Christina said, “We can become over-confident and less consistent with the strategies that got us into recovery. We need to maintain those practices that keep us mindful of our recovery – things like meetings, being of service to others, appreciating the gifts of sobriety, seeking a higher power, and rejecting the thought that we are ever cured.”
Spring is a time for letting go of people, places and things that no longer serve you and your alcohol-free lifestyle.
