I was born into a Suffolk family, and have been a member of UJSSA for most of my life. When I started high school, I wanted to get more involved with the UJSSA and applied to be an intern on the junior board - I have been involved with the junior board as a director and officer since then! WHICH UJSSA ACTIVITIES HAVE YOU ENJOYED PARTICIPATING IN THE MOST AND WHY? I have loved getting to attend our new Suffolk Event. It is an amazing opportunity to connect with the juniors of our association outside of the show ring. At other sheep related events there usually isn’t time to truly connect with your fellow members. The Suffolk Event allows much more time to be casual with the people of your breed and to meet new friends. Additionally, the educational sessions are so valuable and the show and sale provide great opportunities for juniors to expand their flocks. WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT BEING A MEMBER OF UJSSA? The UJSSA opens so many doors for its members. Our virtual and in-person events allow for great networking in our industry. Not to mention- the amazing prizes, merchandise and scholarships our members earn for getting involved with these events are unlike any other organization. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE THINKING ABOUT JOINING THE UJSSA AND IN RAISING SUFFOLKS? I suggest that a young member gets involved as possible in the UJSSA, and makes contact with members of our association as much as they can. Making connections in your breed gives you a great network for advancing your flock, and attaining your goals in the show ring and in the sheep industry.
