reference Is to Christ’s exaltation to the right hand of the Father (vs. 3, 13) in contrast to His being “made. . . lower than the angels” (Heb. 2:7, 9) ■in His humiliation. 4. "This day have I begotten thee" (v. 5). A comparison with Acts 13:33 makes it clear that the begetting re ferred to in this passage refers to the resurrection of Christ (cf. Rom. 1:4). Through His resurrection and ascen sion into heaven Christ was exalted to royal dignity, and in this sense no angel ever was called God’s Son. 5. "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness" (Rom. 10:4). Christ did not come to destroy the law. He came to fulfill it. All its demands and types He fulfilled perfectly: Thus we are not to look to the law for justify ing righteousness, but to Christ. He is also the end of the law in that every ceremony, sacrifice, and offering con nected with the law is fulfilled in Him. When the substance comes, the shadow is gone. Christ washes away the defilement which the mirror of the law can only reveal. But a mirror is so placed on a table that it reflects the picture, and one can study it there with ease and pleas ure. “ God is a Spirit,” and He is in heaven, dwelling in light unapproach able. thinking of one special' day that was coming—the day He would give to people here on earth His best Gift, His own Son, the One who was to be our Saviour. Now that special day had come. Now the best Gift of all was to be given. LESSON STORY: The night was dark and still. Men called shepherds were in the fields, taking care of their sheep. Some may h,ave sat by the fire to watch, while others wrapped their warm coats about them and lay down to sleep. Tiie mpn did not know that this was a special night. They did not know that a wonderful Gift was to be given, All at once they saw a bright light, “ the glory of the Lord,” / shining around them. They heard an angel saying something like this: “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news. It is good news for all the people of the earth.. ‘For there ,is born to you this day, in the city of David, a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.’ ” Soon the sky was fillfed with other beautiful bright angels. They were all praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest.” After that, it was dark again. The angels went away into heaven, and the shepherds hurried to Bethlehem. There, thej^found the Baby Jesus lying in a manger, with Mary and Joseph caring for Him. “Yes,” one of the shepherds may have whispered, “it is just as the angel said! The Lord has shown us something wonderful.” The shepherds began telling the good news that Jesus had come— . Jesus the Saviour. Do you love Him as your Saviour this morning? (Apply Romans 10:9, 10, or other salvation verses.)
