with others less fortunate than our selves. But more than this, Christmas reminds us of the greatest love gift ever given to man — Jesus Christ. “Thanks be unto God for his unspeak able gift” (2 Cor. 9:15). For Those Who Have Topics I. TO REVEAL GOD’S LOVE (John 3:16; 1 John 4:9). God’s great heart of love is shown to us in His willingness to give to sinful man the dearest treasure of heaven. He saw our helpless, sinful condition, and wanted to redeem us to Himself that we might share with Him the glories of heaven. 1. A Unique Love. It is human to love only those who love us and to give to those from whom we expect something in return, but God’s love is different. He, who Is the Author of love, loves those who do not love Him and gives His love gift, Jesus Christ, freely to all who will accept Him. 2. A Universal Love. “God so loved the world." There are no racial, terri torial, or social boundaries to God’s love. His universal love for all men gave a universal gift to all men. “Mr. Spurgeon once asked a farmer why he had inscribed the words, ‘God is Love,’ on his weather vane. ‘Do you think God’s love is changeable . . . ?’ “ ‘Oh, no,’ replied the farmer. T mean that whichever way the wind blows God still is love.’ ” II. TO MANIFEST CHRIST’S LOVE (Eph. 3:19; John 15:13). Christ’s great love for us is shown in His willingness to descend from the glories of heaven to this sinful world. He came to save us from eternal pun ishment and to make us heirs with Him of eternal riches. 1. An Unselfish Love. Christ came from heaven’s glory to a cruel cross, from a mansion to a manger, from the praisès of heaven to the scorn of men, to take upon Himself the form of a man, meet our temptations, feel the sting of false accusations, and finally to take the burden of our sin and the sin of the whole world upon Himself at Calvary. 2. An Unchanging Love. All gifts which we give will sometime cease to be useful. They are merely for this life. But Christ is an eternal gift for which we shall forever be thank ful. His love never falls (Heb. 13:8; Rom. 8:35-39). A Moravian missionary in the West Indies realized that he had no chance to reach the natives because they, as slaves of the white men, were be ing driven so hard—working trom early to late. The missionary decided the only way to tell them of Christ’s

(John 15:3). The Word sanctifies (Eph. 5:26), the Word purifies (1 Pet. 1:22), and the Word cleanses (Psa. 119:9). The Bible reveals the need of cleans ing and also provides the cleanser (Jas. 1:22-25), , “This Book will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from this Book’ ’ (Moody’s Bible). V. CHRISTIANS ARE PROTECTED BY THE BIBLE. “Thy word have I hid In mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” (Psa. 119:11). Here is spiritual defense. Jesus an swered with Scripture when He was tempted by Satan. We, too, can meet the foe with the “sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Don’t let your enemies catch you off guard without ammunition. Prepare now for the time of temptation. VI. CHRISTIANS ARE LED BY THE BIBLE. “Show me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me; for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day” (Psa. 25:4, 5; cf. Psa. 119:105). The Bible is the place to find the will of God (Col. 3:16). Conclusion The Bible contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s com pass, the soldier’s sword, and the be liever’s charter. Growing Christians use the Bible. Do you?
