The Center for Aerospace Resilient Systems (CARS) provides a “One Embry-Riddle” approach, leveraging faculty and students across all departments and campuses. There continues to be many threats to the resilience of aerospace systems. Today’s emerging technologies offer both amazing new capabilities as well as new complications. CARS continues to work with industry, government and academic partners to address key emerging challenges to the resilience of our aerospace ecosystem: Aerospace Cybersecurity AAM/UAM/UAS/UTM AI/ML, Data Science Space Systems Autonomous Systems Airspace Systems Operations Resilience Related Training Solutions

The Aerospace Cybersecurity Challenge Emerging and rapidly evolving cybersecurity risks are confronting the aviation and aerospace ecosystem. CARS addresses the cyber resilience of safety-critical aviation & aerospace systems and cultivates new areas of research & development through innovative applications of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), data science and analytics to enhance cybersecurity, cyber safety and cyber resilience of the aerospace ecosystem. Our national security and economic interests rely on the proper functionality and availability of the aerospace infrastructure. Once isolated and independent, aviation and aerospace systems are evolving to become more interconnected, software driven and computationally intensive. While enhancing efficiency, this also increases the risks of compromise. The criticality of aerospace systems and their adaptation to evolving demands require focusing on innovative solution development rooted in safety culture. The Impact CARS is Embry-Riddle’s hub for developing high-assurance aerospace systems and technologies. It connects university experts in CNS ATM systems, AI, cybersecurity, data science, software, and hardware with industry and government professionals to foster collaboration on industry challenges and opportunities. The CARS System Integration Lab (SIL) is the first center to integrate cybersecurity and data analytics across the aviation ecosystem, including cockpit operations, dispatch, and air traffic control. SIL offers Flight Deck Simulations, Airplane Digital System Twin, Real-Time AI Cyber Detection, Intrusion Response, and Flight Deck Pilot Alerting, focusing on aviation R&D. CARS strengthens Embry-Riddle’s impact in aerospace by providing: Multidisciplinary expertise in collaboration with industry, government and academic partners to address challenges facing aerospace systems and infrastructure. A partner in commercialization that will work with industry to license technology. A centralized knowledge base that shares findings through presentations and publications. Resources to support workforce development and customize training scenarios using physical and virtual tools.
