THE BOEING CENTER FOR AVIATION AND AEROSPACE SAFETY
The Boeing Center for Aviation and Aerospace Safety was founded to take on aviation safety’s most pressing challenges. Through research, education, and industry engagement, the Center leverages Embry-Riddle’s faculty of more than 1,300 to solve hard problems and share new knowledge. The Center’s mission is accomplished through four pillars: Research // Conducting relevant and impactful research to enhance safety. Areas of emphasis include: Aeromedical Factors AI-enabled Data Analytics Human Contribution to Safety Loss of Control In-Flight Safety Culture Spatial Disorientation Academic Programs // Supporting industry-leading safety education at the undergraduate and graduate levels at all three campuses. Programs include: Bachelor of Science in Aviation Safety Bachelor of Science in Aerospace and Occupational Safety Bachelor of Science in Human Factors Psychology
ADVANCING THE SAFETY OF ALL WHO FLY.
Directing the center are two highly qualified aviation professionals. Executive Director, Honorable Robert L. Sumwalt , is a highly distinguished aviator and former chairman of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Associate Director, Kristy Kiernan, Ph.D., is a former Coast Guard aviator, where she served as aviation safety officer and lead pilot for technical issues in the Falcon 20. Her current research investigates the positive contribution of human performance to aviation safety.
