results, you will wake in eternity to see them, perhaps far greater than many of which men boasted. The greatest o f all the revelations about the future condi tion o f the saints is that they are to be identified with Jesus Christ in His reign— that is, those who “ overcome.” Not all saints are to be elevated to this position; this is for victorious saints. “ To.him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.” The joy o f Jesus Christ is to be your joy, if you are an overcoming, vic torious child o f God. —A. T. P ie r s o n . FEBRUARY 8 . “Now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face" (1 Cor. 13:12). I often wonder as I look Out o f the purple mountains, past the brook That flows from there, and passes to the sea. I often wonder— But must wait to. see! I often wonder as I see The flight of some bright spirit, glad and free, Out from the weary body—to the strand O f that glad country called Emmanuel’s Land. I often wonder— But must wait to see! I often wonder when and where The call may come to meet Christ in the a ir; Or whether I shall rise and go to Him Through the dark shadows o f that valley dim. I wonder when the veil will lift for me. I often wonder-L; ;, But must wait to see! I often wonder—but I know The mists that hide the outlook here below Will vanish at the rising o f the Sun, And all life’s problems end in heaven be- gun, When, wondering still, we kneel before His throne, Knowing, at last, even as we are known. And from His lips those gracious words receive: “ Blessed are they that see not, yet believe.” —M. E. L ogie -P irie . FEBRUARY 9 “I will love him, and will manifest my self to-him" (John 14:21). God is an accommodation to human weakness. When He would teach truth, He must needs set it in the form of fact; when He would show Himself, it must be through the tabernacle of our own flesh; when He would reveal heaven, He must illustrate His meaning by the fragments of light and beauty which are scattered on the higher side o f our own inferior world. Everywhere, could we but see it, He has set up a ladder by which we may reach the skies.— J o s e p h P a r k e r . FEBRUARY 10 “ Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, was this grace given, to preach unto the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ" (Eph. 3:8, R. V .). The “ unsearchable riches” fit themselves into every possible condition of human poverty and need. The ocean of grace flows about the shore of common life, info all its

we not watch and pray that this day we may only help and not hinder in the least thing, that no one may have virtually to say to us, “Hinder me not” ? May we never be the helpers o f the great hinderer 1When “ Satan hindered” St. Paul, he probably found human agents. — F r a n c e s R id l e y H a v e r g a l . FEBRUARY 5 "Prayer was made without ceasing” (Jas. 5:16). Many of the most blessed seasons of prayer I have ever known have begun with a feeling o f utter deadness and prayerless- ness; but in my helplessness and coldness, I have cast myself upon God, and looked to Him to send His Holy Spirit to teach me to pray, and He has done it. J—R. A. T o r r e y . It is so terribly easy to drift, to neglect or hurry prayer, to shorten or even drop one’s regular Bible study and let maga zines or secular reading take its place. Such neglect may not be noticed much, if at all, by the persons .themselves, but others notice it ; influence for Christ is weakened, and o h ! the sadness o f it when it becomes true of a follower of Christ, “he wist not that the Lord had departed from him.” Poor shorn Christians! shorn o f their strength and they know it not. — L a u r a A. B a r t e r - S n o w . FEBRUARY 7 “ Ye that make mention o f the Lord, keep not silence” (Isa. 62:6). There are gentle healings and gracious recoveries in the hush of a sheltering si- fence. On the other hand, silence may commit its own wrongs. “ The crudest lies,” said R. L. Stevenson, “are often spoken in silence. A man may have sat in a room for hours and not opened his teeth and yet come out o f that room a disloyal friend or a vile caluminator.” The oppor tunity to protest was present, but we held our peace; a friend was maligned, a false report was made, but we let it pass unchal lenged. It was the heavy hush of betrayal. . . . The momentous hours o f history are often silent. Nations and men fall, and there is no accompaniment o f sound. Sometimes I wonder if it would be good for us if, when a wrong is done, a false hood spoken, or a temptation indulged, some noise announced the event; or if the crash o f a shattered ideal sounded like the breaking of glass; or the collapse o f a faith made itself known like rending tim ber or crumbling masonry. But the trage dies o f the soul are often enacted in si lence, and the moral wrongs o f a city may never disturb a blade of grass or wake a sleeping child. It is the hush of moral decay, the pale death o f winter in the soul. — J o h n M a c B e a t h . FEBRUARY 7 “Every one that hath forsaken . . . shall receive an hundredfold" (Matt. 19: 29). There will be boundless compensations for every self-denial— for all the founda tions you have been laying out o f sight, where nobody but the Lord has known anything of the work, and when it seemed as if you spent the whole of your time for nothing. The Lord will take care o f all these things; leave them with Him. It is a great thing just to sow the seed, and not to be unduly anxious about the crop ; leave all that to Him. I f you die without seeing

should .. hinder the gospel o f Christ" (1 Cor. 9:12). Hindering^—we may hinder without word or act!
