The role of Senior Manager, Masterplanning & Space Management
The role requires frequent interaction with the Director of Estates, and will lead the delivery of the University Estate Masterplanning and Space Teams, objectives. The team’s key responsibilities will be to ensure that University of Sussex, use its constrained campus optimally, in terms of efficiency, but also in meeting the needs of a changing community. The post holder will be encouraged to explore opportunities available, to improve US (University of Sussex) use of space, especially within the existing estate. The post holder will manage an internal team of two space planners, but will when required be supplemented by external consultants. The Key role of the Senior Manager, Masterplanning & Space Management will be to provide an overarching strategy for the Estate, but also take projects within the overarching strategy from inception to end of RIBA stage 1, to ensure that project meet core objectives. The Senior Manager, Masterplanning & Space Management will look after the team that deal with internal space churn, but will when required provide guidance to this team over best practice and how small works can fit into the bigger picture. A core focus for the campus will be placing student experience at the heart of our developments. An element of works identified within the Estates strategy, is developing a physical teaching stock to respond too, and encourage pedagogy developments. The post holder will be required to have good communication skills, verbally, written and visually, to be able to get buy in from senior stakeholders, within the university. A key element will be the output of high quality documentation, to communicate the proposals, attention to detail in these documents will be valued.
