Want regular 6v6? Play in the tactical pacing. Want chaotic large lobbies? Play in the Blitz playlistWant a mix of both? Assault is the one for you. For me, this is perfect and I hope it returns in the next games as it allows for different gameplay across the same maps as well as a different feel. I personally love the chaotic nature of the Blitz play - list. The only downside to the combat pacing feature is that some of the maps are completely made for one pacing compared to the other. Whether it be too big or too small. Another new feature is destruction, this isn’t on the scale of the destruction in the Battlefield series where you can level an entire building with a few explosives. This is more like Rainbow Six Siege’s destruction. There are a few destructible walls or floors you can shoot or run through to create new ways across the map. The best map to show off this feature is Decoy, nearly the entire map is destructible meaning the map is never going to be the same by the end of the match. Other maps do not have as many destructi - bles and it is honestly an underutilised feature in some cases. Also returning from Modern Warfare is the mount - ing feature, this time it was improved by allowing you to move across whatever you’ve mounted rath - er than just being able to tilt left and right across the wall you placed yourself on. This is a nice change to the feature as it allows you to experiment with different angles better. The map design in Vanguard is very strange to me. It’s built for a competitive “know where all fights will happen” unlike Modern Warfare, yet it doesn’t feel that way. It does, however, make each map feel rather bland in comparison to Cold War’s or Mod - ern Warfare. Aside from looking different and being built differently, they all play in the same way. Positives aside, a big fault of Vanguard is that it is a VERY glitchy game. The launch has been decently smooth with few glitches, however, once its first season and battle pass launched all of the games linked to Call of Duty Warzone (Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard) became very very glitchy, including Warzone itself.
Modern warfare was made unplayable for a while because of this. Cold War got the least of the bugs because it isn’t directly connected to Warzone. Another issue lies in that it feels closely identical to Modern Warfare, which isn’t a bad thing but that also makes it lack its own identity. In conclusion, Vanguard is an enjoyable game de - spite its issues. If you enjoyed Modern Warfare then pick it up, although if you do please do it while it is on sale rather than full price. The game will get bet - ter over time as the DLC seasons come out. which should hopefully bring the game into a more stable place.
