Prescott-Russell’s ambulance services is now the target of a Ministry of Health investigation. “They have launched two separate investigations on us,” said Michel Chrétien, director of emergency services for the United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR). use of Prescott-Russell ambulance units to handle some of the city’s emergency calls. Ottawa claims it is under no legal obligation to pay and continues to make use of UCPR ambulances. Provincial policy for ambulance dispatch requires units to respond when required, even if the call is in a neighboring jurisdiction. Ottawa’s demand on PR ambulance units has been so great, sometimes that there are none available when UCPR residents need ambulance service.

Nearly 600 men recently came together for dinner, a comedy show and live and silent auctions, raising $68,000 for 30 different community organizations. On June 13, the donations were presented to local charities at the Metcalfe Curling Club. As a result, the Winchester District Memorial Hospital Foundation received $5,000. The donation was directed to the hospital’s General Equipment Fund for the purchase of equipment like a new Phototherapy Bilisoft LED light, to help treat babies with jaundice. Since 2007, Shroomfest has donated $38,000 to the WDMH Foundation. “It was a great evening and we are so grateful,” noted Cindy Peters, the WDMH Foundation’s Manager of Direct Mail & Events. “We are so appreciative of this gift, and of Shroomfest’s ongoing support over the years. This group has truly made a difference in the lives of our patients and our community.” Pictured is Brendan Cavan and Al Graham, presenting a cheque for $5,000 to Peters. —supplied photo
