Practice News A Courageous Hero We are very excited for Stefanie’s husband, Peggy’s son, Staff Sergeant, Clinton Brown. Recently they traveled to Washington DC so Clint could accept a United Service Organization National Guardsmen of the year award. After driving for almost eight hours, a little after 3 a.m. in Marshall, Texas, he witnessed a crash where another driver ran multiple red lights and T-boned another vehicle. He reacted quickly and arrived on the scene. Brown realized that the person in the car that was T-boned was the most critical one and needed the most help. Clint reached in the car to try to feel a pulse, he tried to provide aid to the driver, but he was gone. His fiancee’ was in the car with him. Brown’s wife, Stefanie, stayed with the fiancee’ while Brown moved on to the other car to check them. Suddenly the second car caught fire, another bystander and Clint tried to kick in the windows but weren’t having any luck, but that changed when a passing semi driver came up with a hammer. Brown said he ran over, grabbed the hammer and broke the back passenger window out. He saw two kids in the back seat who were fully awake and conscious. The mom was in the driver seat still, getting hysterical. “She was turned around, holding on to both kids and wasn’t letting go. She was going to let them burn in the car.” The truck driver returned with a fire extinguisher and attempted to get the flames under control. Meanwhile, Brown, a father of three, said he remembered thinking to himself that he wasn’t going to let anyone burn to death in a car. Brown said, “I reached in and grabbed the mom’s wrist and squeezed as hard as I could and ripped her daughter out of the back seat. As soon as I did that, she put her head down and started singing gospel music.” The fire extinguisher didn’t do much to control the fire, soon the front of the car was engulfed in flames. “Her son was behind the driver seat, so I just grabbed him and pulled him out of the vehicle,” Brown said. After he pulled the children out, the police arrived and they were able to get the woman out of the burning car. For his actions, unbeknownst to Brown, his first sergeant, Master Sgt. Jerry Gardiner, nominated him for the United Service Organization National Guardsmen of the year.

Brown said his family is very proud of him and are excited for his recognition. Recently, the Brown family learned what happened to the individuals involved in the accident. “The guy that was killed was 19-years-old,” said Clint, “the other driver was charged with first-degree murder and a couple counts of child endangerment. She was found not guilty by reason of insanity.” Brown doesn’t know what happened to the two children

he rescued, but to his children, he will always be their hero. Clint was honored at the 2016 USO Gala in Washington D.C. on October 20, 2016. Advanced Physical Therapy would like to extend our congratulations to Clint and his family!!! Well done Clint and thank you for serving our country!
