The Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Model, developed at CAL under the U.S. Department of Education- funded Center for Research on Education, Diversity, and Excellence (CREDE), is a research-based framework proven to support multilingual learners. Three (3) features to help students employ cognitive, metacognitive, and language learning strategies.
Interaction 5.
Four (4) features that launch high-level student interaction about content to meet rigorous standards.
Practice/Application 6.
Cultural Proficiency
Institutes Characterized by three (3) features that facilitate deliberate use and practice of oral and written language.
Lesson Delivery 7.
Four (4) features that help teachers monitor the success of lesson implementation.
Language Proficiency
Review/Assessment 8.
Uses four (4) features to determine to what degree students are meeting a lesson’s content and language objectives.
