The last bastion of the com- petitive free enterprise system, the auction method of market- ing and the age-old profession of auctioneering continues to grow every year. The most recent research indicated that about a quarter-trillion dollars in goods and services are sold by auction professionals every year in the United States. Online or on the lawn, auc- tions continue to grow in popu- larity with consumers. Bidders enjoy the thrill of competition and the rush that comes with the chase for treasures. Auc- tions are the most fair, trans- parent and efficient means of selling assets at true market value. Most importantly, con- sumers understand this and regularly come back to auc- tions because they are fun and entertaining. The National Auctioneers Association and its members encourage the public to enjoy Saturday, April 16, by attend- ing an auction. n
