THE BEST JOB IN THE WORLD WHAT I LOVE ABOUT PRACTICING PI LAW

P racticing Personal Injury (PI) law appealed to me because of the unique characteristics and challenges associated with it. I don’t get paid unless my client is compensated for his injuries, which is greater motivation for me to fight on their behalf. I don’t mean to make it sound like it’s all about the money for me; that's far from the case. I got into PI law because of the opportunity I saw to help people in ways I couldn’t help them by practicing law in any other discipline.

someone else, like a social worker or psychologist, can help a potential client better than I can. I am happy to at least get a chance to point people in the right direction. Even if I can’t help someone, we really pride ourselves on our ability to be a resource to the community, whether that means helping them ourselves or recommending them to professionals who can help them better.

Atlanta is a dangerous city, and danger doesn’t abide by any curfew. We’re available to help our community 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That’s why if you type 247Law.com into your search bar, you will find our website. Any time of day, any day of the week, we will pick up the phone.

For two years after I graduated from law school, I practiced law in the corporate world. For a lot of people, that would have been the start of a successful career, and they would have been content to stay there. If I had done the same, in my mind, I would have just made rich people richer. I didn’t want to be a lawyer who only worked with wealthy people; I wanted to work with those who needed a personal injury lawyer , regardless of whether or not they could afford one.

“BEING AVAILABLE ALL THE TIME TO HELP ANYONE IS WHAT I LOVE ABOUT MY JOB. I GET TO MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE DOING SOMETHING I’M GOOD AT AND PASSIONATE ABOUT.”

Being available all the time to help anyone is what I love about my job. I get to make a real difference doing something I’m good at and passionate about. In a world where we are bombarded by all sorts of media on a daily basis, I’m glad I get the chance to foster real world connections with clients from all walks of life. When I can help someone get back on their feet, practicing PI law is the best job in the world. –Aaron Marks

This means I get to work with a diverse demographic and meet people I otherwise would not meet, which is one of my favorite parts of the job. I get to forge relationships with and learn about my clients as I help them. Unfortunately, I can’t help everyone who comes to my practice. One of the biggest challenges with practicing PI law, at least for me, is knowing when

WHAT IS THE WORLD’S BEST EXERCISE?

AARON MARKS: SUPER LAWYER FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE

Not all exercises are created equal. In fact, there is one form of exercise that is better than many others: walking. Harvard Medical School took a look at various exercises and concluded that walking is up there with swimming and tai chi in terms of health benefits. Regular walking can help maintain good cholesterol and blood pressure levels and keep your bones strong and healthy. One study showed that 40 minutes of walking every day helped people reduce blood pressure from hypertension to prehypertension, and then eventually to normal over several months. Walking can even keep many different kinds of diseases at bay, such as diabetes and heart disease. In addition to these physical benefits, walking daily can improve your mood and overall mental health. As simple and straightforward as walking is, it can be difficult for many people to find the time. Most experts agree that you need 30–60 minutes of physical activity per day, but the good news is that you can split those minutes up throughout your day. For example, you can take a brisk 20-minute walk in the morning before work, followed by another one at lunch and one more after dinner. Those 60 minutes also don’t have to be strenuous; they just need to happen. However, the more time you put into walking, the more you will get out of it. If you slowly increase your distance and speed, you’ll end up burning more calories and strengthening your legs over time. The great thing about walking is that it’s not particularly taxing on the knees, and you can move at your own pace. It doesn’t get any better than that! To get the most out of walking, schedule your walks for after mealtimes, especially the ones that come later in the day, like lunch and dinner. It’s a great way to aid digestion and burn calories — which can’t hurt your waistline!

DON’T LOSE YOUR CASE IN THE WEEDS THE CASE AGAINST ROUNDUP WEED KILLER

In late March, a California man won $80 million in a lawsuit against Monsanto, the company that manufactures and markets the popular weed killer Roundup. The jury found Roundup’s main active ingredient, glyphosate, to be a substantial factor in the man contracting cancer. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has deemed glyphosate a probable carcinogen. The rates of a specific type of cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, in Americans increases from 2 percent to 2.8 percent among those who use Roundup on a regular basis. Monsanto has submitted several hundred studies to the EPA claiming that Roundup is safe, but many independent studies have said otherwise. This lawsuit was not the first to allege the harmful effects of products containing glyphosate. Thousands of similar lawsuits have been filed across the country, but this case rides the heels of another suit in which the plaintiff won $78 million in damages. As the number of lawsuits against agribusinesses over the harmful effects of products containing glyphosate grows, governments all over the world are banning or heavily regulating its use.

began selling its stock early last month, and Costco dropped Roundup from its product line. Even though the EPA has said that Roundup is not likely to be dangerous, we at Marks Law Group want to encourage anyone who feels they deserve compensation for medical expenses incurred from contact with harmful chemicals. There will no doubt be more lawsuits surrounding the use of glyphosate in the future, and recent settlements should indicate that you can make a successful case with the right attorneys. Give our office a call today for a free consultation.

The effects of these international legal actions against glyphosate have even been felt in Georgia. Pike Nurseries

Getting Important Greens on Your Plate

ADDING NUTRIENTS TO YOUR MEALS THE IMPORTANCE OF GREEN FOODS

Being healthy is at the forefront of many Americans’ minds. The nutrients you put into your system are critical to keeping your mind and body healthy. Everyone knows that staying away from junk, fried, and sugary foods is a good start, but knowing what to add to your diet is equally crucial. Leafy greens, such as kale, mizuna, and spinach, are rich in dietary fiber, calcium, potassium, and iron. They also contain vitamins C, K, and E. Adding these greens into your diet can support weight loss and reduce your risk of high blood pressure and heart disease. To make sure you’re eating enough greens, divide your plate up between

fruits, vegetables, grains, and meats. Vegetables or fruits should take up half of your plate. One-fourth should be lean proteins, and one-fourth should be whole grains. This guarantees that you’re eating a well-balanced meal and not overloading yourself with large portions of unnecessary calories. When you eat a well-balanced meal, you provide your body with the right nutrients and the calories it needs. If you’re unsure how many calories you should eat to maintain your current weight, multiply your weight in pounds by 12. If you want to lose weight, start by subtracting 500 calories per week to lose approximately 1 pound per week.

You can start adding greens into your diet by adding them as side dishes. For dinner, serve a bowl of steamed broccoli or green beans. Instead of grabbing a burger at lunchtime, pack a leafy green salad topped with protein, such as nuts or chicken. This time of year, soups and stews that contain leafy greens will warm you up. If you don’t enjoy eating greens, hide them in smoothies and juices. The more you eat leafy greens, the more you’ll develop a taste for them. Who knows? Before long, you might find yourself reaching for the broccoli instead of the potato chips when you’re craving a snack!
