&/#3&'r#3*&'4 NOMINATIONS AU CSDCEO François Bazinet a été élu sans oppo- sition au poste de président du Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien (CSDCEO) et Roger Chartrand à celui de vice-président, également sans opposition. C’est le 3 décembre que le vote a eu lieu, lors de la séance inaugurale du CSDCEO. M. Bazinet œuvre dans le milieu de l’éducation depuis 45 ans et en politique depuis 2010. C’est un quatrième mandat pour François Bazinet. Quant à M. Chartrand, il est conseiller scolaire depuis 19 ans. Il s’agit d’un sixième mandat pour lui. – Todd Lalonde, trustee for Cornwall and Glengarry County, was acclaimed for his fourth term as chair of the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO), during the board’s December 4 session. Lalonde has been a CSDBEO trustee for 14 years. Ron Eamer, co-trustee for Cornwall and Glengarry County, was acclaimed as CDSBEO vice-chair. He has been on the CDSBEO board since 1981, and served as both chair and vice-chair during his time. —Gregg Chamberlain FINANCIAL REPORT The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) reviewed the 2018-2019 term financial report, during its November 5 session. The report will go to the Ministry of Education. Total revenue was $189.5 million and expenses totalled $189.1 million, because of staff and administration economic efficiencies, and some opera- ting costs proving lower than projected. The report shows the CDSBEO with an accumulated surplus of $377,511, and an operating accumulated deficit of $881,000, which will be carried over into the 2019-2020 budget period. The report noted that all figures proved better than revised estimates in the December 2018 financial report.– Gregg Chamberlain WINTER FLOOD RISK Cold temperature and almost no snow have created a potential nuisance floo- ding risk if December weather proves rainy. The South Nation Conservation Authority (SNC) has put the water safety hazard at Yellow status for the South Nation River watershed region. An SNC information brief states that water levels are normal for this time of year, but the below-ground frost means that the soil in the region is now saturated from past precipitation. L’organisme de bienfaisance Ronald McDonald House (RMH) est l’heureux bénéficiaire d’un chèque de 14 763 $ de la Bjouterie Markor Jewellers, à Alfred, membre de la Canadian Jewellery Group Co-operative Association (CJG). Les 14 763 $ en dons recueillis cette année, grâce aux activités de collecte de fonds, seront répartis entre les 15 Manoirs Ronald McDonald à travers le Canada. Ronald McDonald est une organisation dédiée à fournir un foyer loin de chez eux, pour les familles d’enfants gravement malades qui séjournent dans un hôpital à proximité. En tant que fier commanditaire, le Canadian Jewellery Group a ramassé jusqu’à présent plus de 170 163 $ pour les organismes de bienfaisance RMH dans des collectivités à travers le Canada. Independent MPP Amanda Simard, in a recent media interview, that she is the subject of unfair criticism from him and other Prescott-Russell mayors over her performance as the representative for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, compared to when her predecessor Grant Crack was the riding’s Liberal MPP. Le 1 er décembre dernier, l’École secondaire catholique de Plantagenet (ESCP) a réussi à récolter 3750 $ destinés aux enfants défavorisés de la région de Prescott Russell, lors de son activité annuelle le Brunch des Anges. L’argent sera remis, comme chaque année, à l’organisme communautaire Valoris pour sa campagne des Lutins de Noël 2019, qui lui permettra d’offrir des cadeaux aux enfants défavorisés de la région. C’est déjà le 21 e anniversaire de l’évènement. L’école a remis à la campagne des Lutins de Noël une somme de plus de 56 000 $. Plus de 40 personnes ont participé à un atelier sur la planification de la plantation d’arbres dans l’Est ontarien, le 23 novembre dernier. Boisés Est, l’Association française des propriétaires de l’est de l’Ontario, offrait un des ses derniers ateliers de 2019 à Alfred. L’atelier a permis aux participants de se familiariser avec les nombreux programmes disponibles pour appuyer la plantation d’arbres, soit sur des terres peu propices aux grandes cultures, pour protéger les bandes riveraines ou pour les nombreux bénéfices qu’offrent les arbres pour les citoyens, soit les loisirs, favoriser la biodiversité, les revenus et autres. —photo fournie

QUALIFICATIONS • Être titulaire d’un diplôme ou d’un grade d’études postsecondaires relié à l’entretien du bâtiment tel que charpenterie, plomberie, électricité etc. • Connaitre les pratiques couramment admises en ce qui a trait à l’entretien ménager, à la buanderie et à l’entretien, selon le cas; • Avoir au moins deux ans d’expérience dans l’exercice de fonctions de gestion ou de supervision; • Avoir de l’expérience dans la gestion d’employés syndiqués est un atout; • Connaissances en plomberie, électricité, mécanique et ingénierie, menuiserie, HVAC et santé et sécurité; • Connaissances des outils de gestion de l’information et des applications telles que Microsoft Office et logiciel de courriel; • Attestation de dossier judiciaire secteur vulnérable; • Posséder de bonnes connaissances de la Loi sur les foyers de soins de longue durée et SIMDUT. • Être capable de s’exprimer, lire et écrire en français, le bilinguisme est un atout.

Une lettre ouverte au Club Optimiste de Rockland et l’équipe Jr. A de Rockland, les Nationals. L’an dernier, alors que Nathan était en troisième année, le Club Optimiste a orga- nisé un concours, Rêve d’un jour , pour les élèves de ce niveau. Dans un court texte, Nathan a décrit son rêve et pourquoi il devrait être réalisé. Son rêve: jouer dans son équipe de hockey préférée ! Et vous l’avez bien deviné, oui, jouer pour notre équipe Jr.A locale, les Nationals ! Après plusieurs mois de réflexion et de planification entre le Club Optimiste & l’organisation des Nats, c’est pendant la semaine du 11 au 15 novembre dernier que le rêve de Nathan s’est réalisé. La semaine a commencé alors que Nathan a eu l’immense plaisir d’accueillir à la maison les deux gardiens, Cole Hudson et Cyrus Cy Martin, pour une offre bien spéciale : une pratique et la mise au jeu officielle du match du vendredi. Une offre alléchante, sans pareille et non refusable ! Lors de la pratique du jeudi soir, Nathan a su se démarquer et impressionner ses pairs et coéquipiers, alors qu’il était sous la direction de Cole ! Arrive le vendredi, soirée du match ! Nathan, excité comme bon le semble, a des étoiles dans les yeux et un sourire fendu jusqu’aux oreilles, tout comme lors de sa pratique. Plusieurs surprises, avant et après le match, étaient de la partie. Une expérience et rêve d’un jour qu’il n’oubliera jamais ! Enfin, un grand merci du fond du cœur aux organisations impliquées dans ce Rêve d’un

S P O R T S ROCKLAND’S ISABELLA INGLIS WAS BORN TO PLAY HOCKEY

Meanwhile she jokes that outside of herstudies, her training, and time with her family, the only other interest she has is sleeping. “I take my rest very seriously,” she said, smiling. “It’s very rare that I’m not doing anything that involves hockey. Becoming a hockey player has made me who I am.”
It’s no joke if anyone says that Isabella Inglis was born to play hockey. “My whole life,” Inglis said with a smile, when asked how long she has been a hockey player. Known to family and friends as “Bella,” the 17-year-old Rockland athlete’s earliest memories about her fascination and passion for Canada’s sport go back to when she was three years old, and spending almost all of her winter days on an outdoor skating rink near the Lemay Circle neighbourhood, in Rockland. “Hockey came into my life when I was very young,” Inglis said. “I would watch the older people play and think, ‘Wow! I want to do that!’” Right now she’s a senior at the Ontario Hockey Academy (OHA) in Cornwall, spen- ding her second year of academic study and hockey skills training at the academy. When she graduates, Bella Inglis already knows where she’s going, and that is south of the border, taking her hockey passion to the next level as part of the SUNY Canton Roos women’s hockey team for the State University of New York. “I’m pretty excited,” Inglis said. “I’m continuing my dream of playing hockey.” The SUNY Roos (short for Kangaroos) are a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) team, which means Inglis will be playing, and facing challenges on the ice, from the highest level of athletic excellence in amateur competitive hockey, short of going to the Olympics. Need for speed Over the years before she arrived on the OHA campus, Inglis has developed and honed her hockey skills, starting first as a member of the Clarence-Rockland Light- ning, then during her peewee years with the Russell Coyotes. When she moved on to midget-level competition, Inglis joined the Cornwall Typhoons AA team, at the age of 15. “Bella’s strength is her speed,” said Glenn Inglis, her father and chauffeur through all the years of travel between Rockland and Russell, and now Rockland and Cornwall, for practices and games. “She is really fast.” “Pretty fast,” Bella said, smiling, when asked how fast she can skate. “My coach is always telling me to skate faster, and so I just keep getting faster. When I’m on the ice, I’m focused on getting the puck in the net.” Besides being fast, Bella Inglis is also strong, able to bench press 120 pounds without any problem. Her one weakness used to be stick handling, but since she began studying and training with the OHA coaching staff, that is no longer a problem. “Now my hands and wrists have gotten better, stronger, from moving the puck around other players,” she said. Living on campus at OHA has prepared Inglis for being away from her home and family for long periods of time. Campus life has also helped broaden her view of the world, thanks to her three dorm buddies who hail from the U.S., Japan, and Singapore. “We’re all family, technically,” she said. “It’s pretty cool, sharing our experiences and talking about culture.” Bella is not looking at hockey as a career. Her goal is joining the RCMP after university.
