Ansell Lighting
Established in 1992, Ansell Lighting is a recognised market leader in the lighting sector. It designs and manufactures high quality lighting solutions for the commercial, domestic, industrial and architectural markets from its Warrington design and innovation centre, and exports them to more than 26 different countries. Central to Ansell’s ethos is a commitment to UK product design, research and development, with an assembly team and distribution operation in both the North West of England and in Belfast. In recognition of its efforts to design, develop and assemble locally, it was awarded membership of Made in Britain, the official collective marque for British manufacturers. Ansell Lighting’s laboratory recently achieved Lighting Industry Association Laboratory Certification 003 for the company’s luminaire testing facilities – one of just six in the UK to achieve the accreditation – allowing it to validate the quality and performance of new and existing products in-house. The team at Ansell Lighting pride themselves on having a long history of innovation, using the latest in 3D design engineering technology and photometric analysis software to create new and improved product designs. This has enabled them to launch their own range of connected lighting
products under the brand OCTO. OCTO provides tailored and scalable smart connected solutions for a variety of applications, offering reduced energy consumption, control and data usage management. Emergency lighting The product for which Ansell Lighting has been awarded a King’s Award is its patented Panel Pod. It was created in response to an identified industry need, and converts an LED panel light into an emergency light in less than 60 seconds, without needing a conversion kit or additional ceiling fixture to install. Emergency lighting is required by British law and workplace health and safety guidance, so if the lights go out in the case of a fire or other incident it stays on for up to three hours to aid safe exit from a building. Since its launch in 2014, the team at Ansell Lighting have continuously improved upon its design and over 400,000 Pods have been sold worldwide. It remains one of the company’s most important and best-selling products. Ambitious plans Already a leader in the UK, Ansell Lighting has ambitious plans to scale up operations overseas.
It already successfully exports to 26 countries and, as part of its growth and expansion strategy, has opened an office and showroom in Madrid, Spain, in addition to its presence in Dublin, Belfast, Dongguan and Denmark. The company takes sustainability seriously and has its own Green Team taskforce to embed sustainability into the business. The team encourages sustainable practices and generates ideas on becoming more energy efficient and reducing single-use plastics. Recent sustainable successes include an overhaul of its product packaging, saving the equivalent of more than five million plastic bags per year, recycling the company’s spare parts and switching to bamboo merchandise.
