personal evangelism by Benjamin Weiss GOOD ENOUGH I ’ m good enough.” This was the I confident answer of one who had just been invited to consider receiving Christ as his Saviour. He continued in an effort to fortify himself in his view by saying, “ I have never com mitted a crime. I treat my fellowman right. I help others whenever I can and try to live by the Golden Rule.” He was quite persuasive in his state ment. He did not feel the slightest need for a Saviour or a life-changing experience. The Bible speaks very directly about self-righteousness and self-con fidence. It is the authority of God speaking. He gives clear expression about the needs of all who are com placently walking down life’s road. It says in condemning statements: “ A ll have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). . . There is none righteous, no not one” (Romans 3:10). “ If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us” (1 John 1:10). For whom is he good enough? Ask his family, “ Is he really a wonderful ly good person who never does any thing that isn’t good and true and kind?” Ask his neighbor, “ Is he the most humble and considerate person you have ever known? Is he good enough for God who knows all the thoughts and intents of the heart? Is he the exception about those of whom He said in His Word, “ There is none righteous” ? God is the inescapable judge. Even now we cannot deny His judgment. Is he good enough for Him? Certainly, “He is not good enough.” There is a way to be good enough. It is not by meeting a few social standards or personal rules. There is just one way to be “ good enough.” He tells us in His Word: “ Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5). This is the way to be “good enough.” It is the only way. It is the way that God has given. It is also a simple way. It is receiving Christ as personal Saviour. It can be had for the asking. It is as simple as that. This is the way to be “ good enough.” This is God’s way.
