Objects: A chain with six large links, made from colored construction paper. (The links are to be black, red, white, blue, green, and gold.) Lesson: How would you like to have me tell you about the longest chain in the world? It is the chain which reaches from earth to heaven. Here is the first link. (Conceal the other links in a bag.) It is black to remind us that the Bible says: “ All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23)- The next link is red, and tells us of the blood of Christ which cleanses from all sin. In 1 John 1:7, we read: “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” The third link is white, and shows how the soul looks whose sin has been cleansed by Christ’s blood. David said: “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow” (Psa. 51:7). Next to the white link, we find a blue one. When the children of Israel were going back into the wilderness, the Lord told Moses to have them bind on the bot

"GLOR IOUS TR IUM PH ” By Louise Harrison McCraw. Cloth, 278 pages, $1.00

Relates the struggle and spiritual growth o f a young Southern girl who faces soul-testing experiences with resolution and achieves “ glorious triumph*’ in the face o f circumstances, fraught with dis appointment and bitterness. It is a story charged with the romance o f the South. Its heroine, Betty Thornton, brings poignantly to the reader “ what is most fundamental in human life— man’s relation to God.” The narrative is a convincing instance o f “ what Christ can mean in a life when it is turned over to His guidance.” “ GLORIOUS TRIUMPH” makes an ideal Christmas gift. tom of their garments a border of blue (Num. 15:37-41). When they were tempted with the things of the world, this blue border was to remind them that they were God’s people. The next link in this long chain is green. It suggests growth and fruitfulness. God wants the life first to be cleansed from sin and separated from worldly things, and then He will cause it to be fruitful. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law” (Gal. 5:22). The last link is yellow, suggesting the golden streets of the heavenly city. If even the streets of that city are of gold, how wonderful the rest of it must be I Now you understand why I call this the world’s longest chain—it tells about the sins of earth, and how to reach the heav enly city’s streets of gold. 11; Heb. 13:20; 1 Pet. 5:4). They were in the open country, tending their flocks by night, when suddenly the darkened hill side became aglow with heavenly light as the glory of the Lord shone round about them. Filled with reverential awe, they bowed in that light and heard the message which broke God’s silence of four hundred years. It was Holiness that had come upon the scene of human existence, and wherever Holiness is manifested, fear arises in the hearts of men who are by nature sinners and alienated from God. At once the angel calmed the shepherds, saying, “Fear not” (vs. 10-12). Their ears were to be attentive to the tidings which were intended to bring them joy. The message was good because it spoke of God’s salvation for man, it was joyous because it spoke of God’s love for man, and it was universal because it was for all the people. Such angel ministry is unnecessary today because the revelation from God is com plete. Having spoken in His Son, God has nothing more to say or to reveal to men (cf. Heb. 1:1, 2 ). The Bible, which is the full revelation of the Son in whom God
