In Spencerville, which also held its fair the weekend of Septe m ber 6-9, large tents were blown over when a windstor m hit on Saturda y . The onl y real m ishap in Russell

was the theft of a displa y cow valued at about $8000 fro m the Travelling Far m er’s displa y Thursda y night. The m uch-anticipated Fall Cutting Horse co m petition had to be cancelled, which was a great disappoint m ent to co m petitors. One Ke m ptville entrant even had a friend fl y out fro m Calgar y to watch her co m pete. Ag Societ y president Bert Vedder said the cattle had to be loaded at 5 a. m . Saturda y m orning so the decision was m ade at 4 a. m . to cancel the event. The horse ring was so m udd y there was concern for the safet y of horses, calves and riders. The call turned out

to be a good one as the rain poured down m ost of the da y . However, Thursda y night, Frida y and Sunda y outdoor activities were all well-at- tended. The Frida y education da y portion of the fair was ver y well received b y local schoolchildren and there was an excellent arra y of agricultural education displa y s. A new act this y ear was the Wanted acrobatic tea m . Once again Luc y Mulders of North Russell won the exhibitor with m ost points in the handcrafts co m petition. Andree Desor m eaux of Chesterville won new ex- hibitor with m ost points.

The Classic Car Show has run for 18 years at the annual Russell Fair. Rod Pedherney of Embrun has been a frequent winner, and this year was no exception. He won Best of Show for this recently restored ’67 Mustang.
