Student Volunteer Army Service (Bronze Award) Jake Abbiss, Sam Averill, Charlie Hanson
Each leaver was presented with a koru key ring. The koru symbolises new beginnings or a transition to new horizons. I wish you all the best for your future endeavours and know you will be able to use the skills you have gained to face the numerous challenges and changes you will meet in the “real world”. I hope you will take some very fond memories away with you. As a group, you have cemented some very strong friendships that I am sure you will maintain. “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8). Finally, I would like to say thank you to the following for their contribution to the House this year: Vicky, Kerri and Carolyn, our awesome domestic team, who keep the House spick and span; Philippa, the seamstress, for all the sewing and mending; Assistant Housemasters Kate Morris and Nick Sutcliffe for all the work they have done, particularly with their mentor groups; Sam Walker, for your help as non-residential tutor and for providing cover on
weekends; Residential tutors Callum Bell and Jack Harper, who make a huge contribution to the House, especially after normal school hours; Sharon Cryer, our hardworking and dedicated Matron, whose care and support of the boys is unsurpassed; Deputy Housemaster Henry Smith, who has been a great support and to whom I know I can entrust the reins of the House if I am away. Thanks, also, to Henry’s wife and children, Kate Kempthorne-Smith, and Ben and Ruby, for their support of Henry and the House; a big thank you to Vikki, Rebekah and Joshua for their amazing support of me, I am so grateful; lastly, thank you to the Lord for the strength and guidance He has given me in 2020. We farewell Jonty Hodges and Max Charteris and wish them well in their future endeavours. We also farewell Sam Walker as he begins his career at a law firm in Auckland, thank you for your contribution to the House and we wish you well. He aha te mea nui o te ao? He ta¯ ngata, he ta¯ ngata, he ta¯ ngata – What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people.
Gold Badge for Academic Excellence in Year 12 Ben Davis, Daniel Qi
On the last night of the year we celebrated and farewelled our Year 13 group and their parents. Head of House Guy Chaffey and his father, Sandy, delivered outstanding speeches, which highlighted their five years at College and in School House. At the end of the evening the boys in Years 9–12 performed a rousing College haka as a final farewell to the leavers. An outstanding end to a great year in School House. Guy, Ben, Sam, Alfie, Charlie, Winston, Mago, Kit, Hugo, Daniel and Will, you have finally made it! Hopefully, you will look back on your years in the House with pride and satisfaction. Guy and Ben, you have led your peers and the House with compassion and empathy. To the entire Year 13 group, thank you for your outstanding leadership and for the support you have given the House staff.
