2ND XI CRICKET Coach: Rob Clarke Team: Henry Eglinton (captain), Ben Abbot, Jamie Barr, Jack Belcher, Jordan Braithwaite (Term 4), Ben Breitmeyer (Term 1), Tom Clarke, Sam Dickie (Term 4), Nick Gibb, Ciaran Huntley (Term 1), Daniel Metherell, Sean Rutherford-Bradford, Tim Seeto, Ollie Shore Term 1 saw the two day competition get underway, with the team in the 1st XI Bowl grade. In the first match, College bowled out Rangiora High School 1st XI for 25 (Jack Belcher 5/1) and won the match by an innings in one day. Against St Bede’s College 2nd XI the team were set 191 to win. Ben Breitmeyer scored 100 and Tim Seeto hit a boundary off the second to last ball of the match for the win. Sydenham were bowled out for 59, College 245, and then Sydenham batted for 86 overs. With rain approaching Tim Seeto and Sean Rutherford-Bradford scored 25 runs in two overs to win the match by 10 wickets. Against Christchurch Boys’ High School 4th XI, Nick Gibb scored 83 and took 9/69 in the two innings to help College to a nine wicket win. The Covid-19 lockdown meant the last round was not played – and the 2nd XI were winners of the Bowl two day competition. In the annual Otago Boys’ High School match played in Term 1 at home, College batted first and made 240/8dec (Ollie Shore 59) and then bowled OBHS out for 109, before posting a quick 167/6dec (Ben Abbot 53no) and setting OBHS almost 300 to win. In reply OBHS were bowled out for 160 (Nick Gibb 4/38). In Term 4, the 2nd XI were promoted to the 1st XI Cup one day grade, and started the competition with a 31 run win over Sydenham (Ollie Shore 5/17). A loss to CBHS 3rd XI (Henry Eglinton 81) was followed by two wins. The St Andrew’s College 2nd XI were bowled out for 65 (Jack Belcher 4/11) for a six wicket win, and then St Bede’s 2nd XI were bowled out for 84. 3RD XI BLACK CRICKET Managers: Dr Craig Aitken, Jono Brent Coach: Richard Turpie Team – Term 1: Will Patchett (captain), Jack Brent, Jack Coles, Hamish Falls-Anderson, Charlie Goodwin, Callum Hackston, Sam Hadley, Monty Hamilton, Matt Lewis, Alex Scott, Harry Sharr, Jackson Thomas, Josh Wood Team – Term 4: Will Patchett (captain), Jack Brent, Will Bretherton, Jack Coles, Hamish Falls-Anderson, Monty Hamilton, Matt Lewis, Jack Martin, Alex Scott, Harry Sharr, Josh Wood The 3rd XI Black team had a golden run this season, securing wins in both the two day 1st XI Plate competition in Term 1 and the one day 1st XI Bowl competition in Term 4. In Term 1, in both of the first two games we were behind after the first innings. Against Riccarton High School, we needed our final partnership of Hamish Falls- Anderson and Charlie Goodwin to bat for an hour to score 21 runs to win. Next, the College 3rd XI White team gave us a generous declaration, which we were able to chase down. Up against St Andrew’s College, we completed our best batting performance by scoring over 400 in the first innings on the back of 92 runs from Will Patchett, 67 from Sam Hadley and 130 from Jack Coles, with Hamish Falls-Anderson taking 6/36 in the second innings. We won the fourth two day match against Darfield Cricket Club following a Jack Brent 67 in the first innings and 56 from Matt Lewis in the second innings. Due to the Covid-19 lockdown, the season concluded with this match – and as we had an unassailable lead at the top of the competition with one game in hand, we took the title. During the one day competition in Term 4, we were able to continue our winning ways, being able to win games by staying in them for long periods – especially as seen in the final. First, we beat Christchurch
of Jack Belcher and Daniel Metherell to score the last two runs for the win. College then chased down three totals against CBHS Colts 233 (Nick Gibb 66no), Timaru Boys’ High School 1st XI 178 (Nick Gibb 60no, Tim Seeto 45no) and Shirley Boys’ High School 1st XI 184 (Jordan Braithwaite 72). In the final against Timaru Boys’ High School 1st XI in Timaru, the 2nd XI made 252/7 off their 50 overs (Nick Gibb 122, Ollie Shore 70). In reply Timaru were 204/4 before rain stopped play in the 40th over and Timaru were ahead on DLS and declared winners. The College 2nd XI team finished runners-up in the 1st XI Cup one day competition.
