Job Purpose: The Electrical Services section are responsible for the operations and maintenance of a wide variety of complex equipment throughout the University Estate such as HV/LV power distribution systems, critical power supplies, fire alarms, intruder detections systems and lighting systems. The service provided is carried out throughout the University estate and supports all University activities. You will be a self-starter and work autonomously within set objectives. Your role is to manage the Electrical Services section and specialist maintenance contractors to provide an Estates maintenance service. You will ensure all statutory, planned and reactive works are completed safely, cost effectively and to agreed KPI’s and Service Statement. a . Lead and Manage the direct employed labour in accordance with University policies and guidance for staff management, including writing job specifications, recruitment, discipline and grievance, time sheet completion, absence monitoring, performance management, appraisals (Monthly 121’s and quarterly PDRs) etc b. Ensure the DEL’s competencies meet the Section services requirements undertaking succession planning, skills needs/gap analysis, developments plans etc c. Lead and provide clear direction on maintenance standards, prioritise and schedule statutor planned and, reactive maintenance, defect repairs and minor works, organize and deploy direc employed labour, engage specialist contractors as required, monitor service delivery standards to comply with all necessary legislation and to the University’s accepted standards d. Management of section workshops, property, vehicles, tools and equipment in accordance with University policies and guidelines e. Development of Section operating arrangements, procedures and processes which contribute to the Estates Maintenance Strategy. f. Work with other parts of the maintenance and Estates team to ensure best practice and way of working are shared to develop a positive reputation to staff and students in the Estates team as a whole. g. Management and operation of the BEMS systems as necessary h. Act from time to time in the absence of the Head of Maintenance 2.
