PART OF THE COMMUNITY

it seems like each summer the program is more successful than the last one. We’ll keep throwing graduation parties and summer recreation programs as long as we have a community to give back to. It’s thanks to that wonderful community that we’re still going strong, and we couldn’t be more grateful. To you, all our friends and neighbors, I offer my deepest thanks. - Dave Morin “ ... collaboration is what community is really all about — finding ways to work with others to provide a service to your community.

a safe, drug-free environment. Instead of heading to house parties or being tempted to drive under the influence, they had a great time in our facilities. Local comedians and sandwich shops even donated, which meant the kids got dinner and a show to boot! And that collaboration is what community is really all about — finding ways to work with others to provide a service to your community. The kids had a blast, and we had a blast hosting them! It was a fantastic way to start summer, and we sure had a busy one, especially with another “giving-back event,” our summer recreational tennis program. We provided professional tennis instructors to students from 5 years old all the way up to adulthood. We had a wide variety of ages and skill levels, from beginners just developing a love of the sport to skilled players looking to improve their game. Our instructors love the program just as much as the students do — it’s a great way for them to give back as well — and

When you’ve been in business since the ‘70s, you learn a thing or two about staying in the game. And one thing that we’ve learned, time and again, is that you can’t survive apart from your community. No matter how much money you have or how hard you work, you’re reliant on your own community to stay in business. It’s a humbling truth, and one that we’ve kept in mind in our decades of operation. At Fore Court, we like to say “thank you” for your support in a number of ways. A few months ago, we hosted the Cumberland High graduation party for the 10th year in a row, working with the police department to provide a safe and fun way for graduating seniors to celebrate their achievement. We donated our time and space so the kids could have a good time, and boy did they! We had dance floors, palm readers, obstacle courses, basketball, tennis, Wiffle ball, flag football, inflatable boxing, a rock wall, a mechanical bull … and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Fun activities like these kept the graduating class in

4 Foods for Youthful Exuberance What we eat influences not only our overall health, but how we age. Diets high in fat and sugar tend to age us faster — and they can be detrimental to our brain, especially when it comes to memory and cognition. Want to maintain a youthful spark and keep your mind sharp as you age? It’s all a matter of incorporating the following foods into your diet (while cutting down on the junk). you already eat (freshly ground is best). Omega-3s help reduce inflammation, which in turn reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke. Flaxseed is also high in fiber. These wonderful things come together to lower LDL cholesterol. Salmon This is one fishy friend that’s packed with omega-3 fatty acids. Salmon is one of the heart-healthiest sources of protein you can eat. Other varieties of fish are exceptionally heart-healthy as well, namely sardines and anchovies, but those can be an acquired taste for some folks (though they are great in salads).

Avocados These green machines are high in healthy, monounsaturated fat. It helps maintain a more ideal blood pressure and can help reduce the risk of high blood pressure as you age. Because avocados are high in fat, you still want to watch how much you eat. Like any of the foods on this list, consuming too much of a good thing can negate the positive health benefits. Blueberries These juicy little blue balls of goodness are packed with antioxidants, which keep cells functioning at peak performance. That includes cells in the brain and those believed to be associated with both short- and long-term memory. Eat blueberries as a snack, toss them in a smoothie, or add a handful to some salad, oatmeal, or cottage cheese. Flaxseed One of the easiest ways to boost your omega-3 fatty acid intake is to add a few tablespoons of ground flaxseed to foods

Tuesday, September 5 marks the start of our indoor tennis season for the juniors’, women’s, and men’s divisions. This is a particularly important year, with the debut of the new court surface. We know we’ll get a lot of feedback — hopefully positive — on how the courts feel to play, bounce, and maneuver on. Really, we can’t think of a better test than to have hundreds of players of all ages and skill levels hit the court for 37 weeks. We’ll split it up into four 10-week drills, with ladder leagues on Saturdays for the juniors. As you know, the indoor season is primarily instructional. We want to address power, form, footwork, and every other element that goes into making you the best tennis player you can be. We do this with positive instruction from experienced trainers who know tennis like the back of their hand — or their backhand ! Our trainers come from a variety of backgrounds, and each has their own unique approach to the game, which means there’s always someone here who can improve your technique. Tennis aside, we’ll also have all the usual classes and activities, from weight training to cardio dance to obstacle training. Have a fitness goal? We want to help you achieve it in a fun and effective way. Club Happenings in August

Article Headline/Title Goes Here! Try Something New Thi Season

It’s the end of summer, the kids are headed back to school, and your own fitness routine is … well, how is it? Could it be a little better? If so, that’s okay; the summer slump affects more than the housing market. We tend to see a bit of a dip in our classes during the warmmonths, likely because people spend time outside in the pleasant weather and take care of their kids and family while school is out. That dip just means we can head into fall with new dedication and vigor, and we encourage you to do the same. If your exercise regimen fell by the wayside, there’s no time like the present to correct it. Maybe you can finally get back to the weight room or take that group fitness class. Fall can also be a fantastic time to try out new activities. A lot of people have been interested in obstacle racing; and if you haven’t given it a shot, you’ll love training for your next Spartan Race or Mud Run in our state-of-the-art obstacle facilities. Or maybe you’d like to add some martial arts mojo to your cardio routine; we’ve got several group classes dedicated to doing just that. If you’re chomping at the bit for our tennis facilities to reopen (and trust us, so are we!), then one great way to stay active and be ready for our indoor season is to take advantage of other parts of our facilities that you haven’t tried out before. There truly is something new out there for everyone, no matter what your interests or activity level.

You can check out the full scope of our offerings online at forecourtri.com, but you might be better off asking one of our trainers or staff what they’d recommend. You’ll get different answers from everyone, but all the answers will be good!

Floating in Space The Wonders of Sensory Deprivation Tanks

intervals, though some centers will allow you to sign up for extended sessions. There are tanks of all shapes and sizes, but they will all seal you off from the outside world and give you a chance to clear your head and relax. There are many benefits to floating in an isolation tank. In addition to being incredibly relaxing, they can work wonders on your skin and hair, and provide pain relief. More than anything, flotation is a peaceful experience that will provide you with a sense of mental clarity that is hard to come by in the modern world.

tanks use water mixed with Epsom salts to simulate flotation. They also provide a completely black environment, free of external noise. NASA has actually used flotation tanks to give astronauts experience with the feeling of weightlessness. There are now hundreds of flotation centers throughout the country, offering regular people the chance to experience the benefits of floating. When you arrive at a float center, the first thing you’ll do is take a shower and put on a bathing suit to prepare for your flotation. Tanks are usually booked in hour-long

We live in a world of constant sensory bombardment. From advertisements to smartphones to fluorescent lights, hardly a minute of the day goes by without something competing for our attention. Sometimes what you really need is a break from all the light and noise — a chance to clear your head in silence. Sensory deprivation tanks are one way to separate yourself from all the distractions of modern life and spend an hour or two alone. Floating tanks used for sensory deprivation have been around for over 50 years but have really taken off in the last decade. The
