PARTNERSHIPS ARE THE CORE

For 37 years, New Visions has worked alongside educators to design and implement solutions to some of the thorniest problems impeding student and educator success. We listen closely to educators’ challenges, so we can strengthen and streamline their work and allow them to focus on what they do best: teaching and leading. Our partnerships mean that we hear authentic feedback and directly observe our impact so we can design programs and tools that work for real educators at a citywide scale. The 71 schools in our New Visions Affinity Network, serving over 36,000 students across all five boroughs, are our closest partners. We provide them with responsive coaching, engage their staff in professional learning, and open up opportunities for their students that lead to higher rates of on-time graduation, college enrollment, and college persistence. Our deep work side-by-side with teachers, counselors, school leaders, and district leaders is a catalyst for improvement across the entire city. Together with our partners, we develop innovations that deepen citywide initiatives, build school capacity, and often go on to benefit the whole public school system.

What does it look like to achieve these outcomes through deep partnership? It looks like

490 schools choosing to engage in our professional learning and coaching, investing their time with us because they know our curricular materials and workshops are rigorous, relevant, and aligned to their needs; 98% of schools across the largest school district in the country using the Portal by New Visions (despite the lack of a district mandate) because they know the Portal helps them to ensure that more students get the support they need to graduate on time and achieve their postsecondary goals;

Over 600 students spending their summer building skills and dreams for their futures through our Career Academies because they know this experience is worth their time and will expand their horizons.

We are proud to partner with the New York City Public Schools leadership, our city agency colleagues, corporate partners, foundations, and generous individual donors to deliver results for NYC families. This Annual Impact Report is a testament to the power of those relationships. Simply put, we couldn’t do this work without you.

2024-25 Vision in Action

We offer our most comprehensive support to our 71 Affinity Network schools , which serve a higher-need student population and consistently outperform non-New Visions NYC public schools. New Visions Affinity schools serve 36,000 students across all five boroughs, providing opportunities to pilot, refine, and scale solutions to some of the most pressing education challenges in New York City.

Our Affinity Network students are achieving incredible things. Here's a look at their 2024–25 outcomes:

Success in the "Core 4"

In response to rising absenteeism and the post-COVID reintroduction of exam requirements, we anticipated a potential decline in graduation rates for the Class of 2025. New Visions focused on ensuring that every student who could graduate on time had the support to do so. We developed the Core 4, a set of new features within the Portal that helps schools monitor four critical drivers of on-time graduation: attendance, grades, credits, and Regents exams. By surfacing early warning signs and highlighting students who may need additional support, Core 4 allows educators to focus their time where it matters the most and intervene before students fall off track.

Almost every day when I come in, I go to the Core 4 graduation projections and look at the predictors: the possible, probable, very likely. Even with hundreds of students in a cohort, it allows me to get right down to the students who need the most follow-through and support. I can pull the data, customize outreach to counselors, and make a plan around Regents and credit gaps. It helps us get to the meat of what we need to do quickly and be very strategic.

Using the Portal, schools identified students with a viable path to on-time graduation, tracking their progress closely and stepping in with targeted support when needed. This approach ensured that 97% of students who could graduate on time made it across the finish line , even in schools where students faced greater challenges.

Dimon What makes this work a game changer is that we aren’t just adding programs. Instead, we are focusing on improving the system itself. Every student’s path is different and supporting them requires solutions that recognize their unique interests, aptitudes, experiences, and goals. That kind of work is complex and difficult to accomplish at scale. New Visions makes it possible with tools that make data visible and actionable to educators and their partners. This goes beyond traditional metrics. New Visions is capturing and tracking data that gives all stakeholders insight into the relationship between college persistence, family-sustaining income, and career advancement. By breaking through silos of previously disconnected data, New Visions has the ability to troubleshoot and track student outcomes over the course of ten years (ages 14-24) and beyond. Pulling data from a cross section of affiliated high schools, colleges, and employers enables New Visions to connect these institutions and hold them individually and jointly accountable for the academic and employment outcomes of teens and young adults at a formative time in their lives.

For decades, Judy Dimon has been a transformative force in shaping how NYC schools build pathways for young people to succeed in the 21st century economy. Through her philanthropy, advocacy, and leadership of The James and Judith K. Dimon Foundation, Judy brings together business leaders, educators, nonprofits and government to scale high caliber models that equip students—better, faster and more affordably—to secure gainful employment, earn family sustaining incomes, advance their careers and lead lives of purpose. New Visions is proud to partner with The James and Judith K. Dimon Foundation, NYC Public Schools, and the Department of Youth and Community Development to produce actionable data about how well schools are sequencing, valuing and shaping best proven practices into “rungs within reach” that lead to measurably better education and employment outcomes. Student and school-level dashboards in the Portal empower stakeholders to make sense of information about engagement and outcomes. Now, everyone from school staff to system leaders has the information he or she needs to strengthen the access, quality and impact of the academic/career connected learning system for thousands of students and graduates across NYC.

OUR FOCUS ON THE FUTURE Strengthening Career Pathways

FutureReadyNYC, a New York City Public Schools initiative, engages students in career-connected learning in high-wage and high-demand fields like technology, healthcare, business, and education. Through FutureReady, more than 135 schools across NYC provide paid work-based learning, industry credentials, and early college credits to foster students’ economic mobility.

Equipping Students for their Financial Futures

At New Visions, we believe that financial literacy is a prerequisite for long-term success. To make that belief a reality for NYC students, we partnered with FutureReadyNYC to support teachers as they implement new financial literacy curriculum across all 135 FutureReady schools. As a part of FutureReady, all participating students must complete at least 54 hours of financial literacy coursework. Recognizing that many educators found this new content daunting, we provided high-quality professional development and built a thriving professional learning community so teachers felt supported and skilled in facilitating complex topics like credit management and investing. The result is NYC students are gaining the sophisticated financial fluency they need to thrive in a modern economy.

Meeting with other financial literacy instructors and hearing about their work and how they got into this has been a real highlight. I’ve realized teaching financial literacy isn’t like teaching one of the core subjects. Everyone has taken their own journey to the role. There is so much diversity in backgrounds and experiences for the people here – I feel like we really represent New York City. It’s amazing to see and connect with.

DATA EMPOWERING HUMAN CONNECTION A Shared Vision for Success Chronic absenteeism often hides in plain sight. “Butterfly” students who miss just one or two days a week can quietly fall off track before anyone intervenes. New Visions launched the Butterfly pilot to catch these students before they fall too far behind. Using real-time Portal data to identify who needs support, the pilot connects each student with a trusted adult for weekly one-on-one check-ins. These conversations review attendance patterns, address upcoming barriers, and celebrate progress. Grounded in consistency, communication, and connection, the pilot is designed to build lasting engagement and a school culture where students feel seen and supported.

EVERY PATH COUNTS Connecting Students to Career Training Across NYC with the Career Directory

To help young people and the professionals who support them navigate the complex landscape of career training opportunities, we created the Career Directory, an open-access digital tool featuring 300+ free or low-cost career training programs across New York City. Each program listing includes standardized and vetted information—such as eligibility, cost, duration, credential earned, and location—so counselors and advisors can help students evaluate options with the same clarity and rigor typically used in the college search process.

Young people are often told to dream big without being provided the necessary tools. The Career Directory is shifting that paradigm by providing students and the educators who passionately support them with a concrete, equity-driven resource to explore meaningful, attainable career paths. We are proud to support this initiative.

HONORING Richard Beattie's TRANSFORMATIVE LEGACY

In June 2025, New Visions experienced a sad milestone with the passing of our founder and long-time Board Chair, Dick Beattie. With the generous support of his family, friends, and colleagues, we created the Richard I. Beattie Civics and History Fund to honor his inspiring legacy of civic engagement. With this fund, we will reimagine how civics is taught, simultaneously tackling two urgent challenges: the need to build students’ capacity for constructive civic engagement and the demand for adaptable career skills in an ever-changing economy. When teachers bring our resources to life in the classroom, they will empower students to: Solve Real Problems Identify and research issues relevant to their local communities. Take Action Work in teams to design solutions and present them to authentic audiences. Gain Essential Civics and Career Readiness Skills Practice critical thinking, communication, leadership, and other competencies key for both workplace success and meaningful, constructive democratic participation.

The Beattie Scholarship has allowed me to become the person I was meant to be. I was able to pursue my passions in both Economics and Dance without the heavy weight of financial stress. It opened doors for me to travel abroad for ethnographic research, develop a solo dance thesis exploring identity and healing, and work with immigrant communities through advocacy and financial access. This support affirmed my path as a queer man of color committed to using art and education to uplift others. As a first-generation college student, I’m so grateful that someone saw my potential to grow beyond my circumstances—it has been a transformative experience, and as I prepare to graduate, I’m ready to grow even more and make a lasting difference in the world.

Originally established in 2022 as the Opportunity Scholarship and renamed the Beattie Scholarship in 2025, this scholarship supports students across our Affinity partner schools in pursuing both college and career pathways. Each year, two students from each New Visions Affinity school are nominated by their educators, selected based on their academic readiness, leadership, clear postsecondary plan and demonstrated financial need. The Beattie Scholarship has awarded 623 winners $3,770,000 in scholarship funds since its inception in 2022.

The Affinity Network structure has long provided a trusted vehicle for individual, institutional, and corporate investment in NYC Public Schools, multiplying the impact of public dollars. Just last year, our donors’ generosity resulted in an additional $2 million in direct student and teacher support, including $1.2 million in scholarships.

ENVISIONING RIGOROUS AND ENGAGING CLASSROOMS FOR ALL STUDENTS Filling Literacy Gaps for Middle and High School

We’re in the midst of a reading revolution, with educators in NYC shifting to use curriculum grounded in the Science of Reading. Unfortunately, many older students are still left with a gap in their education; almost 25% of students entering middle and high school across our network have difficulty reading grade-level texts without targeted support. To empower all students with the skills they need, New Visions launched a pilot to support 13 schools in implementing literacy intervention programs. Fully aligned with the NYC Reads initiative, our holistic approach includes professional learning and coaching for teachers; cutting- edge data tools; and collaboration with school leadership. Following the intervention, pilot schools saw the percentage of students in the lowest reading tier decrease by 7 points . Half of the students in an intervention program experienced double the expected growth from Fall to Spring. For 2025- 26, we have expanded our work to reach more schools and students, and look forward to seeing even more dramatic impacts on student learning.

CHARTING THE COURSE How Navigate Prepares Educators for Curriculum Change

Students are better positioned to succeed when educators feel supported and prepared–and when teachers need to implement unfamiliar new curriculum, that can be a challenge. This past year, 1,964 teachers and over 450 school and district leaders turned to New Visions’ coaching and professional learning to help bring those new approaches to life. We’ve spent decades working side-by-side with educators, and that expertise has allowed us to take our Navigate program nationwide, reaching states from Minnesota to California. Through Navigate, we’re empowering educators to handle complex changes with ease, helping them build the skills they need to keep instruction rigorous, engaging, and centered on their students’ needs.
