Summary:

The Director of Estates and Campus Services will play a pivotal role in helping to shape the future of the University by leading the development of the University’s physical environment in order to support the University’s Strategic Plan. The role will preserve the special character of our University while transforming the facilities to deliver a welcoming and cohesive campus experience – and establish a distinctive and high-quality environment that fosters collaboration and achievement. The Director will report to the Registrar and Chief Operating Officer and work closely with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Director of Finance. The role holder will provide strategic advice and guidance to the Capital Strategy Group and the University Leadership Team (ULT). Through the Director of Campus Services, the Director will also be responsible for the delivery of efficient and effective support services, and for developing the commercial strategies that underpin our residential and commercial offers. The remit of Estates and Campus Services encompasses a broad portfolio, including estates strategic planning, capital development (including a campus masterplan investment currently estimated at £500m), asset management and compliance, organisation-wide health and safety, and campus and commercial services. The new Director will be an exceptional leader and role model with a deep knowledge of managing a dynamic and complex estate. They will also require commercial acumen and to be an excellent negotiator, experienced in dealing with external partners and contractors. The Director will contribute to a wide range of leadership and management issues within professional services and the wider University, displaying the ability and desire to work beyond their core area of expertise. Possessing the qualities to succeed in a highly complex research intensive University, they will model personal authority, an ability to build trust, and collaborate effectively with diverse groups and individuals across the University.

Job Purpose:

The Director of Estates and Campus Services is responsible for shaping the University’s physical environment by focusing on developing and delivering the capital and campus masterplan, ensuring that the physical environment is effectively utilized, safe and appropriately maintained, and leading a diverse portfolio of customer focused campus and commercial services.
