Director of Estates and Campus Services

Principal Accountabilities:

• Leading and developing the University’s strategic estate planning process to ensure that the Estates Strategy is aligned with the overarching Strategic Plan for the institution; • Leading and developing the Estates and Campus Services Division to ensure that it is appropriately organised and its staff are properly trained and well-motivated to meet the challenging demands made on the Service; • Ensuring that the estate is fit for purpose and the University community is making optimal use of the available facilities and space; • Working closely with senior management colleagues to advise on the evolution of the Estates Strategy and the Capital Programme through the delivery of the Estates Masterplan; • Overseeing the implementation of major capital projects through the application of professional project management standards and techniques; • Developing the customer-centred approach to the estate management function, ensuring appropriate processes are in place to facilitate clear lines of communication with internal and external customers; • Supporting the business and trading activities of the University, including conferences, delivering the vision of the retail and catering partnership and the residential estate strategy, by providing line management to the Director of Campus Services • Applying risk management techniques at strategic and operational levels to underpin delivery of objectives; • Working with and maintaining effective relationships with key partners and stakeholders including, the NHS, local councils (including the planning authorities), local conservation groups, private sector developers, construction companies and consultants. Key Relationships: The Director of Estates and Campus Services will work closely and collaboratively with fellow Directors and ensure a two-way exchange of information and business intelligence in support of the achievement of shared projects and business objectives. Internal and external relationships include: President and Vice-Chancellor The post interacts frequently with the President and Vice-Chancellor, particularly in relation to campus and capital planning, and the development of new University initiatives. Registrar & Chief Operating Officer (COO) The Registrar is secretary to Council and leads the University’s Professional Services; the role reports to the Registrar and COO. Deputy Vice-Chancellor The Deputy Vice-Chancellor leads on planning and chairs the Capital Strategy Group. The Director and their team will work closely with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor on resource allocation and capital planning. Pro-Vice-Chancellors (PVCs) The Director works closely and collaboratively with the PVCs to develop and implement strategy. A PVC leads each of the three academic colleges and holds thematic responsibilities for Research, Internationalisation and Student experience. Directors of Professional Services & Directors of Operations The role is an important member of the Registrar’s team and works collaboratively with that team to manage and deliver the work of Professional Services; the relationship with the Director of Finance is key to effective delivery of the Estates and Campus Services portfolio.
