Rockland | By the end of the show, Maxime Beauchamp and his ÉPIC group hope the audi- ence has a new view of the human body. “We’re showing another perspective on mod- ern objects,”Beauchamp said, prior to one of the last week of rehearsals before ÉPIC explodes on stage at the Salle de spectacles Optimiste Per- formance Hall over the June 29 weekend. “It’s all about the body. Every dance is concentrated around a different part of the body. It’s like Man is learning how to move once again.” The 19-year-old dancer/choreographer is also learning by experience how both the director and producer of an entire dance production feels because he is not just on stage with his fel- low dancers this time, he’s also out in front, so to speak, directing everyone’s movements, steps, even specific arm or head movements, based on

to launch ÉPIC.” Like Beauchamp, the majority of the troupe are from the Clarence-Rockland area with a few driving in fromCasselman to be part of the show. They are all experienced dancers. For some of them, ÉPIC is also their first major show. While hip-hop is the main dance style used throughout the show, it is fused with other styles, like reggae, depending on which body part – hair, chest, arms, legs, hips, buttocks – is emphasized during a particular routine. The idea is to match the music to the body part through the fusion of styles. ÉPIC goes on stage June 29 and 30, 7:30 p.m., at the Optimiste Performance Hall. Tickets are available at the door or on reserve by phone to 613-914-3334 or email epicjune2012@gmail. com.

the specific dance forms he and his co-choreog- raphers Stéphanie Joanisse and Camille Tessier- Burns have worked out over the past months since planning began last September. “It’s been a great experience and I’ve learned a lot,”Beauchamp said. For the past four to five years, he has focused on developing his dance skills to express his cre- ative spirit. ÉPIC is his first venture onto the next rung of the ladder of his art, following up from his experience at school in Montréal, when he observed what happened behind-the-scenes of one production and was inspired “to come out of the art shadow” as he explained, and present a new addition to Clarence-Rockland’s own arts and culture scene. “I decided to put my ideas out in front. I’ve de- cided it’s the time to do it.This show was created
