BIOLA ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP DEGREE {BOLD) PROGRAMS Director: Dean Kroeker, M.A. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Biola Organizational Leadership Degree (BOLD) is a "degree compl e tion program" of upper-division co ur se work designed specifically to enable motivated adults to ea rn college degrees, often while working full time. It is a convenient alterna­ tive for individu als whose life cir­ cumstances or vocational roles make e nrollment in traditional weekday educational programs difficult or imposs ible.

Activities include role plays o f situations encountered on campus, conversational strate­ g ies, informal presentations, and discussion of aspects o f c ulwre that affect communication. Pro­ nunciation is also emphas ized. 102E TOEFL (2) An elective course for non-native speakers desiring practice for the TOEFL examination. 103 English for the Non-Native Speaker: Foundations of Academic Writing (4) Practice in accurate s11mn1arizing, paraphrasing, and quoting of sources with proper c it at ion, avoiding plagiarism. Development of library resea rch, no te caking, and prope r formatting of research papers. Intens ive prac tice in punc­ tu at ion and mechanics. Eac h student prepares a Research Project involving inves­ tigation of a significant issue in organizational or ministry leader­ s hip. Knowledge and problem solving abilities are acquired while compl e ting the project, and skills related to thinkin g, research, writing, and effecting change are developed. T'he Biola Uni ve rsity Writing Competency is met by the Research Project.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have com ­ pleted approximately 50-60 semester hours of transferable col­ lege cred it at accredited commu­ nity colleges, colleges, and univer­ sities before beginning BOLD. These units can include cred it via the high school Advanced Place­ ment (AP) program and the Col­ lege Level Examination Program (CLEP) as well as some forms of professional, military, and techni­ ca l training. A com pl ete application must be submitted and the application fee must be paid. Official tran­ scripts from every institution pre­ viously atte nded must b e sent directly from those instirntions to the Biola U niversit y BOLD office or tO the BOLD educa­ tional ce nter office where th e applicant plans to attend classes.
