ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Reduction and Transfer Guidelines for Philosophy of Religion and Ethics Emphasis Students w ith satisfactory undergraduate parallel content in philosophy will be considered for course reduction. All requests for course redu c tion are subject to departmental approval on a case by case basis. Swdents seeking co urse redu c tion must have earned at leas t a "B" grade. Students may only transfer courses that are parallel in con­ tent a nd taken from acc redited graduate schtx)ls and seminaries. Request for transfer of courses should be submitted rn the Office of the Registrar with prior approval from the department. Swdents must complete in resi­ dence a minimum of 24 units in the Philosophy of Religion and Ethics emphasis. The academic program lead­ ing to the Master of Arts degree in C hristian Education is struc­ tured to include (I) biblical and rheological foundations; (2) a core curric ulum consisting of founda­ tional courses and pract ica l skills; (3) a vocational specialization. The Standard Program: 56 Units The program leadin g to the Master of Arts degree in Christian Education, with a ministry special­ ization in children 's ministry, youth ministry. general Christian educa­ tion, family and adult ministry , crossculrnral education ministry, or spiritual formation, includes a mini­ mum of 56 units of st11dy. The stu­ dent who is able ro enroll in 14 units each semester can complete the degree in two years. The stu­ dent who enrolls for less than 14 units may he able ro ac.-c.:ess !ntert­ e rm and Summer school co urses and still complete the program in two years, or may require additional time to comp lete the degree pro­ gram. The pro1,,'l"am must he com­ pleted within five ca le ndar years from the first enrollment. A litera­ t11re review concerning a ministry issue is also required. All applicants must hold the Bachelor of Arts degree or its aca­ demic equivalent. They must have a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). Those accepted who do not meet this latter requirement will be placed on probation. Grad uates from approved unaccredited col­ leges, if accepted, will be granted provisional acceptance. though exceptions may be made when the GPA is higher than 3.0. Both probation and provisional accept­ a nce may h e changed to full acceptance if the st11dent earns a GPA of 3.0 or better on the first eight units at Talbot. Graduates from approved unaccredited col­ leges may he required en take ce rtain additional liberal arts cou rsework ( not applicable toward the graduate degree) , if their undergraduate program did not include these courses.

Our C hristian education pro­ gram exists to prepare ministers in the New Testament sense. for a variety o f functional roles for service in local c hurches and related institutions . This focus on ministrv preparation encour­ ages st11dents to take what they learn in classes and use it in min­ istr y co ntexts, both while in

school and in the furn re. Individualized Program

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

This program is characterized by an emphasis on adaptation to the individual needs and goals of the st11dents. in regard to both their personal and vocat ional objectives. It is presumed that st11dents will enter the prog ram with a clearl y established Christian faith and, normall y, with a definite vocational orientation. The program is designed en afford eac h st11dent a fourfold opportunity: (a) the acquisition of knowledge (h ) the development of professional skill, (c) the enhancement of persona l growth and (cl) the deepening of persona l commitment en Jesus Christ. Timeliness of the Program This C hristian education pro­ gram is designed to meet the specific needs of th e C hurch with emphases in a variety of educa­ tional ministry areas, in c luding: C hildren 's Ministry. Youth Min­ istry, Adult and Family Ministry, General Christian Education rvlinistries, Cross-cultural Educa­ tion Ministry and Christian For­ mation. In light of increasing demands for person s trained in Christian education , the program is struc­ tured to prepare persons ro serve competently in this growing field.

A. Satisfactorily complete 56 semester units. See (D.) below. B. Take th e courses pre­ scribed in the Master of Arts in C hristian Ed ucation curriculum. C . 400 hours of supervised field ministry approved by a fac­ ulty advisor. D. Complete the program in no more than five yea rs. E. Complete an acceptable literature re v iew on a ministry issue related to a selected spe­ cia lization. F. Obtain a 3.0 average with nn g rade below a "C-" in all courses to be counted toward graduation. G. At least 24 units unique to the program must be taken at thi s seminary. A st11dent must have at least a .,.O GPA (on a 4.0 scale) rn gradu­ ate. St11dents are placed on aca­ demic probation if their GPA for any semester falls below 3.0, and will remain on probation as long as the single semester or cumula­ tive Gl'A remains below 3.0. Pro­ bation students are granted one semester in which to bring their academic work up to th e required level (3.0) for continuance in the seminary. A srndenr ca nnot grad­ uate while on probation.
