practitioners are changing. Doctors of Chiropractic are providing legitimate, alternative treatment strategies to client, both directly and through HMO's. Chiropracti c medic ine has long been known to have a holistic emphasis. Biola provides a context in which to prepare a more thoroughl y educated doctor of chiro­ practic whose faith is truly integrated with he r or his profession. T hi s program is offered in cooperation with Los Ange les Co llege of Chiropracti c. Students atte nd Biola for three yea rs taking courses in biology, chemistry, ph ys ics, Biblical studies and th e liberal a rts. The upper di visi on bi ology courses are taken while enrolled at Los Ange les College of Chiropractic (LACC) during th e final year. Upon successful completion of th e program, th e student receives the B. S. degree from Biola. Upon successful completion of the entire ch iropract ic program and examinations th e student would receive the Doctor of Chiropracti c degree from LACC. LACC is located just three mil es from Biola, in Whittier, CA. It is a profess ional school, acc redited by th e Western Assoc iat ion of Sc hools and Co lleges and the Cou nc il on C hirop rac tic Education. S tudents int e rested in this program should major in Human Biology. Specifi c req uirements for this prog ram are listed unde r thi s head ing in th e Co urse Descriptions sec­ tion of this Catalog. PRE-PHYSICAL THERAPY Students inte rested in a career in ph ysical therapy have the oppo rtunity to pursu e one of two program op ti ons at Biola. Both of th ese opt ion s a re desi gned to meet the entrance req uirements of Masters Degree prog ram s in P hys ica l Therapy. (A Maste rs Degree in Physical Therapy would be req uired to work in this field. ) The op ti ons con­ ta in a common core of courses , but differ in the courses wh ich complement this core. T he choice be tween the two · opti ons depends on a student ' s inte rests, abiliti es and ulti- mate career goa ls. Ph ysical th erapy can be practi ced in a var ie ty of settings, from spo rts to schools to hospitals. The core courses common to both options include se lected courses in biology, chemistry, ph ys ics, mathematics and psy­ cho logy. P re-ph ys ica l th era py stud e nts typicall y major in Sports Physiology in the Department of Physical Educati on and Sports Sciences, or they maj or in Human Biology in the Department of Biologica l Sc ie nce. Many opportunities exist for Biola students who are actively seeking professional education and training. Several agreements currentl y exist (Chiropractic aml Engineering) that allow Biola student, to participate in degree completion programs leadi ng to specialized Bachelors degrees or both the Bachelors degree and a first professional doctorate. Additional opportunities are available that prepare the Biola graduate to enter the professional educa­ tion/training phase with confidence. A significant number of Biola grad uates are currently serving in professiona l capacities. They routinely cite their excellent undergrad uate education pro­ grams as predictors of success in their professional endeavors. Students who are interested in pursuing professional degrees after attending Biola should plan ca refull y and consult with potential profess ional schools concerning their requirement,. In some cases, assistance from a major adviser should be supple­ me nted by othe r adv ising resources avai labl e at Biola. The Office of Career Services assist, students in various ways. If a student is unsure about pre-professional adv ising. help should be sought from the Office of the Vice-Provost for Unde rgraduate Education, located in Metzger Hall. The following provides some basic information about pre-professional ed ucation at Biola. PRE-MEDICINE Stude nts who wish to pursue a career in medicine should plan to build a strong foundation in the sc iences and mathematics. Courses in biol ogy, chemi stry and ph ysics form th e core of thi s preparat ion. While most students at Biola who are preparing to enter med ica l school maj o r in biologica l sc ience or bi ochemistry with a pre-med empha­ sis, othe r majors are poss ible if the student completes all of the core scie nce courses req uired by th e medica l school. Medical schools also expect a broad background in the lib­ era l arts such as is provided by Biol a's program in genera l ed ucation. In additi on, Biola's biblical and th eological studies requirement and its integration of a biblica l perspective in all co urses, eq uips the prospective Christi an health profess ional in mind and character to impact the world for Jesus Chri st. A P re-Med ica l Advisory Committee he lp s to pre pa re stud ents fo r the ri go rous process involved in appl yin g to med ica l school. In p~rti cular. students are assisted in their preparation for medi ca l school interviews. Information about the Pre-Medical Adv isory Committee and Medical Co ll ege Admi ssion Test (MCAT) is ava il ab le from the sec­ re tary in the Science Building. PRE-DENTISTRY P repa rat ion for e nt ra nce into dental school is similar to preparation fo r medi ca l school. Stude nts should contact the dental schools of their choi ce for specific entrance req uire­ ments. Information on the Amer ican Dental Associa tion Dental Admission Test can be ob tained fr om the secretary in th e Science Building. OTHER POST-GRADUATE HEALTH PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMS

Many students are inte rested in ca reers in areas such as veterinary medicine, ph armacy, optomet ry, medica l technol­ ogy, podi atry, toxicology, public hea lth and nutriti on. Entry into many of these programs does not necessaril y require a BNBS degree, but it is often advised or is the norm. Each of these a reas has its own req uired basic science and genera l ed ucati on courses; the student is adv ised to determine these from th e ca talogs of the school s of interest. In genera l, Biola offers all of the pre-requisite courses necessary fo r ga ining acceptance into these programs . Informat ion on several of
