THE. KING'S 22 . And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him. * * * 22 . Judas saith unto him, not Iscar iot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and 'not unto the world? ' 23 . Jesus answered and said unto him, I f a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24 . H e that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me. * * * 22 . But be ye doers o f the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. Two Trinitys solicit our obedience: God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; and the world, the flesh, and the devil. “ His servants ye are whom ye obey,” Rom. 6:16. If we profess to be Christians, we pro fess to be, obeyers o f Jesus Christ. If we do not obey Him, we are not Christians no matter what we profess. “Why call ye me Lord, Lord, and do not the things that I say?”—Luke 6:46. “ Not every one that saith unto me Lord, Lord, shall enter into _the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will o f my Father which is in heaven”—Matt. 7 :21. What an amazing and gratifying illustra tion of patriotism we have, witnessed in the readiness with which our young men have responded to dur country’s call! Are we not all a bit prouder of them than we ever were before? And justly so. The calls of business life, professional life, and even home life, have had to yield to the higher call o f -native land. And Jesus Christ asks similar obedience of His own. Simon and Andrew, James and John heard His call, and immediately left all and followed Him. And if our personal interests, and inclina tions run counter to His call, we must not 1. Whom Should We Obey? Matt. 4:18- 22 .

23 . For if any be a hearer o f the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 . For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway for- getteth what manner o f man he was. 23 . But whoso looketh into the per fect law o f liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer o f thè work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. 26 . I f any man among you seem to ■ be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain. 27 . Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. Hunter. hesitate, but leave all and follow Him. “ No man can serve two masters”—Matt. 6 :24. “ He that is not with me is against me”— Matt. 12:20. No loyal American can serve the Kaiser, and every American who is loyal must do all he can to serve his coun try. The same is true o f the Christian. The “ Captain o f our salvation” has no place for “ slackers” in the ranks o f His "army. II. Why Should We Obey Him? John 14:22-24. As a soldier. Because He is worth obey ing. The “ Captain o f the host o f the Lord (Joshua 5 :14, 15) has never lost a battle, nor even a soldier, and never will—John 17:12; 10:28, 29. Traitors and deserters there may be, but they are ‘■‘not o f us ”— 1 John 2:19. It is said that after the defeat and flight o f King James II by William III, the Prince o f Orange, at the battle o f the ' Boyne, an Irish soldier said to one o f the victors, “ Change kings and we will fight you again and lick you.” Our King o f kings, and Lord o f lords never led His followers to defeat, nor deserted them on the battlefield. As a child. Because if we love Him, we must obey Him. True love always seeks to please the loved one. W e say to our
