Old prescription drugs wanted for disposal gŏđŏ

editionap.ca

The OPP and other police forces in On- tario are working to promote safe dispo- sal of old and unused medications. Prescription Drug Drop Off Day is May 10 at various locations throughout the pro- vince. Police and health care groups will collect all unused or expired prescription medica- tions brought in. Also over-the-counter me- dications that have expired are accepted. They too can cause problems if taken. Old medications can prove useless or have unexpected ill effects when used. Unused prescription medications may also

prove a source for drug users. Last year’s campaign in Ontario resulted in 330 kilograms of old or unused medica- tions taken out of circulation. More that 60 OPP detachments will serve as designated drop-off sites on May 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Phone local detachments to see if they are designated drop-off sites or to get infor- mation on where the nearest one is, or go to www.opp.ca for a list of designated sites. Local pharmacies will also accept unused or expired medication at any time during regular opening hours.
