Special guest speakers Alain Paul Per- rou, general manager for l’Agence Essor in France, and Dr. Alain Dupont of T-interac- tion in Geneva, Switzerland, praised Groupe Convext for its efforts to both broaden the social and economic experience and boun- daries of its clients.

Caroline Arcand, Groupe Convex direc- tor, noted that the agency’s success also depends upon its staff and its supporters, including the volunteer board of directors. “It’s important for this organization to go- verned by people with a broad perspective,” she said, “and who can see the Big Picture.”

ROCKLAND | Groupe Convex Prescott-Rus- sell celebrated ten years of social service and economic development in the region this year and an appreciative crowd of close to 200 gathered in the RiverRock Inn ballroom in RocklandMay 1 to pay tribute. “It’s been a marvelous voyage,” said Nor- mand Charette, Groupe Convex Prescott- Russell president (GCPR), toasting the agen- cy’s first decade of operations. Valoris Prescott-Russell is another non- profit social service agency which is also one of the leading partners and supporters of Groupe Convex P-R. Raymond Lemay, Valoris executive director, recalled how in 2001 many of the existing smaller social service groups were amalgamated into a single unit in the interest of greater econo- my and efficiency for their programs. A review of the assets and liabilities showed there were two sheltered works- hops for clients that during the year prior to amalgamation were averaging an annual revenue of about $20,000 combined for the goods and services. “We knew we could do a lot better,” Le- may said, adding that better meant both better revenue and better income for the clients involved in those workshops and also better opportunities for them to grow

both as employees and as members of the community. Since then Groupe Convex has grown to become a key player in both the economic profile of Prescott-Russell and the social atmosphere of many communities in the region. The agency is involved in more than half a dozen various employment projects, ranging from food services to recycling, providing their clients both with gainful employment and practical workskills and lifeskills experience. Lemay noted that Groupe Convex clients “prove every day that they can contribute” to both the economy and the community. Normand Charette, Groupe Convex president, toasts a decade’s worth of success for the non-profit agency.

When MP Pierre Lemieux was sent to Rome in late April as Canada’s representative for the canonization ceremony of Popes John Paul II and John XXIII, he had no idea he would also have a brief face-to-face meeting with the reigning Pope Francis. The MP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell is seen here shaking hands with the pontiff following the canonization ceremony. The ceremony at Vatican City, witnessed by 1.5million people, designates the two deceased popes as the latest addition to the list of recognized saints of the Catholic Church.
